Fireworks

Post by staubio »

I was at Grinders last night and saw a pretty impressive fireworks show popping up right behind Western Auto. I assume it was coming from Liberty Memorial or somewhere in the vicinity.  Anyone know what the occassion was?

Waddell and Reed were having some kind of shindig at Liberty Memorial.  They had a band playing Beatles covers which is what made me ride over, but I quickly discovered it was a picnic for a bunch of accountants, so I kept riding (no offense intended).

It looked like the fireworks were launched from right at the bloch fountain - so that may be the answer to the earlier thread asking why the fountain wasn't operating this week.

I was wondering why I thought I heard fireworks last night.

On a related note my brother moved into Cold Storage this past weekend and I got to go see the rooftop pool deck (which is awaiting city heath inspector approval before it can officially open).  The view up there is truly incredible, and it will be THE place to watch any fireworks launched from the riverfront.

We had a great view from our windows of the fireworks.  Really a pretty impressive show for the end of April.  Looked good in front of the memorial

it scared the crap out of me. the last time this happened i could see lights reflecting on buildings, but this time all i heard was the booms (my view is facing north, opposite the memorial). if you ask me, it was a bit late (10:30-ish?) for a monday night.

I can second that.  My brother in law used to own that building and on the fourth of July we'd sit up there with coolers full of beer and you could see the fireworks from Worlds of Fun, Kansas City, Royals stadium, Parkville, KCK, OP and others.

Don't accountants like to drink?
Sounds like that would have been a good one to crash.

Cant see them.  Can hear them, and can see the reflection from the H&R building.  I usually notice all the fireworks near Union Station and the Memorial and watch them, but cant see these.

Really loud.  BTW.

I had a perfect view from my window in the River Market, great show!  Definitely coming from somewhere around The Paseo, anyone know what it was about?

I noticed they had 18th and Highland blocked off yesterday with temporary tents set up.
There is no fifth destination.

Whatever it was, it was one of the best fireworks shows I've seen.... even though I was 1.75 miles away. :)  Lucky for me, the direct line between my windows and Parade Park passes through a gap in the skyline so I had an almost totally unobstructed view.

The finale was spectacular.

Bunch of Scarritt neighbors out on their porches - asking questions, tryin to figger out what was going on. Damn near grabbed the 9mm before I knew it was fireworks!!

I checked both the Jazz Museum site as well as the Union Station site. Nothing.
Will make a few calls this morning, try and figger out what the hell was going on.

Wasn't one of the big KCMO 4th of July shows that got canceled moved to Hyde Park?

Ahh, nevermind, I think it was supposed to be at Hyde Park and the city rescheduled it.

I know this is further south than everybody has been saying though.

American Royal kick off? Doesn't the BBQ start today?
If it doesn't have street-level retail, it's an abortion.
