Goodbye Crossroads, its been nice

Well, we are closing on our Victorian house in Pendleton Heights one week from today.  So, after over 3 years in the crossroads, its time to move on.  I am amazed at the progress and change here since we moved here from south KC.  The number of retail shops has increased, retaurants have exploded, more and more residents.  It seem like somethign new has opened about every 6 weeks over the last 3 years.  The lunch and dinner hours have gotten more and more crowded, and longer.  There are significantly more people out on the streets at all hours.  I can walk for literally everything I need or want to do, except for a grocery store.  If I need to go further, its almost never been south of Brush Creek, or north of the river.  I can walk home at 3 am and be perfectly safe.  I can walk the dog at 6 am and pass joggers, dog walkers, and delivery trucks for the restaurants. 

I think sometimes we get to bitching too much about the details of the development and changes happening in KC without stepping back and recongizing the very significant changes that have happened in the Urban Core since 2001.  Its just astounding to look around my neighobrhood, and downtown and remember how it was just 5 years ago.  And the big projects are just getting started!  I think the RiverCrownPlaza in 2010 will be an amazing sight to anyone who hasn't been down here for a while.  Its not where it needs to be, but damnm, its well on its way. 

Thats one reason we chose Pendleton Heights to move to.  The houses are great, the prices are perfect, and my nieghbors seem to be a good group people who have already welcomed us to the neighborhood.  I think, and the architects at Helix agree, that Historic Northeast has excellent potential to be the next hot neighborhood in KC.  its still a bit risky, but hell, if we've chosen well, we'll be smack in the middle of the next revitalization surge!!!

You are the true urban rehab pioneer.  Now that Xroads has hit its stride, NE side is one of the next to move forward.  It's already started on NE side but maybe your presence will fulfill its potential.  Xroads loss is NE sides gain.

the cool thing about the street I'm moving to is that there are a couple forum members who live near me, and have already given me some great info about the area.  They've been most welcoming.  Its always surprising to find out just how far reaching this site actually is!

I would never have moved if I could afford to live in the crossroads. Unfortunately, I was not smart enough 7 or 8 years ago to recognize what the potential was. I can strongly recommend the Crossroads at the place to llive in Kansas City.

I must say this thread has both a personal meaning as well as a large macro-level meaning. Xroads isn't really "the little neighborhood that could" anymore. It is high profile and growing very fast in terms of recognition and desirability.

I noticed that the music columnist at the Pitch was making fun of the Xroads as KC's biggest hype 'hood.

well i would agree.  A lot of it STILL hype.  It still has a long way to go before it becomes anything near a 24/7 neighborhood, or even have the same level of activity as Westport.  and YET, it is still pricing people out, which is strange.  Speculators are an evil bunch......

The Safeway building, which I am in, will be going condo in early 2006, with prices at $200.00 sq ft., no ammenities other than a very small fitness center, as is.  Not sure what the prices will be if you want anything done.  From what I've heard, we are a bit on the low side.

I'm very, very sorry that I've been away and didn't respond to your private message. I know we had discussed the house earlier, but I've been in the process of setting up a home based business (which is right across the street from you, as you know) and haven't really been active on the board (though I do check in just to glance every three or four days or so). I would like the chance to say that I'm extremely happy to have you and your partner move in as neighbors, and to give you another fine welcome to our little corner of the world. This street alone may be soon the most dense with kcskyscrapers residents! My brother-in-law just moved here from Boise, Idaho (he is the downtown Raddison/former Doubletree executive chef) and he fell in love with historic Northeast's beauty, ,diversity, and low low prices. 

The interesting thing is that we are, house by house, building a very strong community up here and I think you will notice it immediately if you haven't already. And you are right - this may soon be THE place to have bought property. I'm really looking forward to joining some groups, getting some momentum going, and just working on watching this city explode. It will happen, and we will be there.

Thank you for the welcome! With my real estate agent just up the street, you across, and a couple others I've heard of and talked with on the street, I'm getting pretty excited about the move, and the neighborhood.  Everyone seems to know each other, and look out for neighbors. Thats a nice feeling.  I'm going to really miss the crossroads, but I'm sure we've made the right decision in where to move. 

Now if the whole packing up thing was done, I'd really be happy! What a pain in the butt!

I've only been here since January, but I've never had this great  a feeling of community anywhere, not even in the Waldo neighborhood I lived in for almost 15 years. It's a pretty great feeling. Moving is indeed terrible, there's no question about it. Come by and knock on the door if you need anything at all.

CONGRRATS, TAT!!!  I love Victorians, I looked at a couple of houses on Garfield. I've been living in the northeast a little over three years in a 1915 Shirtwaist. I love Pendelton Heights, it's really great area. I live further east in Indian Mounds. Welcome to Historic Northeast!
