Strange noise downtown near 7th and Broadway

Post by jeffvb9 »

Anyone in that vicinity know what the loud noise (sounds like a saxaphone or some instrument playing just three notes)?

It started last night about 9:00pm and has been going ever since.  I had ruled out someone at the loft building where I am at since it was still going this morning.....

Folgers.

Some motor or belt is groaning in the cold.  Walk over to May Street and you can hear it better.

Heard a loud bang that woke me up last night (maybe about 11:30-midnight), it sounded like it came from the East of me (10th and Penn).  Loud enough to wake me up, but not loud enough for me to care what it was.

When I lived at 7th and Broadway 10 years ago, I believe Folgers ran those pumps 24/7, which is probably better than the stopping and starting, because after a while it becomes a white noise that you don't notice.

I did live on the back side of the building though - I couldn't hear it unless I opened the windows.

What's that big thing across from Folgers on 7th that always gets encased in an insane amount of ice during the cold?

something to do with freeze-drying the coffee.  the prax-air truck is there once or twice a day with cold stuff.
