And what it isn't is an urban district that feels urban and works like 99.9% of the successful urban districts in the world work." That's not criticism, that's bullshit and there's a difference.
Well, no, it's not bullshit—and it's not really a criticism either, just a statement of the P&L's unusualness. And, yes, P&L is very different than most other successful urban shopping and entertainment districts, the large majority of which are in neighborhoods built in the conventional, historical way, with shops and restaurants housed in buildings opening onto the street. Westport is such a district; it clearly has a very different atmosphere than P&L, and people use its space differently than they use P&L's.

To return to the original discussion: KCPowercat's criticism of the design of the space around H&R Block was that it's hard for anything other than a well known place like Chipotle to succeed there, presumably because it's not natural, simply as a consequence of walking down the street, to pass the entrances of many of the businesses in the area
.
Wait, is your argument here that there are not successful examples of retail courtyards in urban areas?

So pash is just demonstrably right here. I mean, he just is.

StrangerThings, I enjoy you quite a bit, and you got close when you said that HR Block fucked things up a bit, and we all get that. But pash and kcp are just right. And this is coming from someone that uses that area a lot. But it's just not good. And giving me google shots of other cities doesn't change that because I live here and I eat there and I walk by it every day so I don't really need satellite images to tell me I'm wrong.

Like it's okay. Two thumbs up to Cordish. They fucked up a block. I still like eating my lunch there. And I kinddd of like it because there aren't many places where I can sit outside and eat at a table. But like, it's not urban 101.

Also, if we do a meetup, do we have to put our names on the badge? Like hi pash, this is strangerthings? KCP was going to say hey, but he got a little into the $100 free bar tab we all threw down. I mean, I'm just asking for a friend.

Continuing the earlier thought (forgive me if it was answered somewhere in all the back and forth): Is Mixx just oblivious to what's gone on downtown? I understand they had a tough go at the outset with evening/weekend hours but that was years ago. Is this something Cordish raises with them and they simply don't care? It's just very surprising given the evening/weekend success of the south Plaza location.

that's too bad although I can't say I've eaten dinner there. I figured with 1/2 light and P&L filling up a lot of people would be.

I do wish businesses would give evening hours some time....the cost of staying open till nine is tiny.

I suspect this will finally be the big draw restaurant they have wanted from the beginning. Not that some of the others don't draw well (Bristol's is always busy when I'm there) but if done like I think it will be done, this place will be a huge boon for the area.

StrangerThings wrote:Attended the VIP event Saturday night and loved it. Decor is great, layout is spacious and they didn’t try and cram a table and chairs into every single spot. Plenty of room to move around. Food was excellent and all the drinks I tried were perfect. This place is going to do so well.
Great news! A BBQ arms race in KC can only mean good things for everyone involved now that we are past Famous Dave's. A regular Joe's seemed like a no-brainer for so long, but I'm excited to see what they do with a more elevated concept!
