So just a guess.. still primarily a BBQ restaurant but with full sit down service instead of counter? But will it have an onsite outdoor pit or indoor pit? Indoor pit tends to lack smokiness, and hauling smoked meats from other location can lower quality.StrangerThings wrote:I'll put the rumors to rest. Almost.
It involves Joe's, but isn't just a Joe's. It's a brand new concept that will be a big hit.

Definitely going to have to have more of a bar element than any other joes
Re: P&L District: 13th & Walnut Site Proposal
Guessing the Joe's concept will involve them brewing their own beer. Seems crazy to yank the beer tanks out of Gordon Biersch.

Given they are downsizing they may be willing to sell but maybe not in markets they stay in.

That is crazy talk. I'm fine with claims that Joe's is overrated, but barely above average? That argument only flies if you are only considering KC BBQ joints (not nationally), and even then it is well into the above-average territory for me.NorthOak wrote:While I like Q39 much more than Joe's KC (only kansans would put cheese on BBQ).
It would be a plus for downtown to have such a famously hyped (but barely above average) BBQ joint.
But Food TV and other media will still focus on the hick gas station location for the kitsch.

Of course I'm considering KC joints only. Why tf would I be talking regionally or nationally?bobbyhawks wrote:That is crazy talk. And you're a kansan so - you prove my point perfectly.
Joe's is Kansans way of getting an ounce of BBQ cred in KC - when they have never before had any.
That's the main reason they hype Joes' crap.
The other reason is they're scared to go downtown or the "hood" and Joes is safe.
Joes has above average ribs - everything else on their menu is average or below.
Then subtract points just for being dumb asses and putting cheese on BBQ.
= barely above average.
Q39, Jackstack, Gates, LC's, Bryants, Danny's and others including Jazzy B's in Lees Summit are all way better.
If they build in P&L and get rid of that idiot cheese sandwich I still wouldn't go when I have better choices.

That's a stupid analogy.StrangerThings wrote:It's like arguing your favorite color is better than someone else's favorite color.
Everyone agrees that "some BBQ is actually better than other BBQ" because there is a mass consensus of best places in KC.
Example: Everyone knows that Rosedale BBQ sucks ass, but it's cheaper, has decent fries and it's easy to get in/out during lunch so it remains open.

Only in Kansas City would people have a week long argument about BBQ...and it would turn personal.
