Upscale? Kinda. The place has a nice veneer to it. Homey retro-chic, but nothing pretentious at all. Well groomed, I guess. The food I've sampled is pretty serviceable "midwestern" fare at reasonable prices. Hope we get an atmosphere that replicates the buzz of Fran's Yonge St. original.
Good for you, P & L. Good for you.

Fran's is great. They will be a welcome addition down here. Savvy will also have some great interior design and very quality coffee and drinks.

Fran's looks like a good addition. I was just thinking P&L could use an old school 24 hour diner. This is close enough but I was thinking more E Coast style long narrow diners where you have a low strung long counter on one side and booths along the other wall. Close enough though.
Diners with social counters are a dying breed in KC.

I have been to Fran's during recent trips to Toronto. It's a great urban restaurant. What a pleasant surprise for it to surface here.
Re: P&L District: 14th & Main Site Proposal
wow, Fran's sounds like a great addition and was totally unexpected. Good move Cordish!
Savvy should also be a welcome addition, and I do like the idea of KC becoming something of a melting pot for regional (NE/IA/oustate KS/MO) chains (Savvy, 801, Scooter's), but I was kind of hoping for a flagship Latteland or Roasterie concept. Oh well, it should still be a solid addition and provide the kind of relaxed, coffee and a paper 'hangout' atmosphere that P&L currently so desperately lacks.

There are a couple of big announcements on their way. One more unexpected that Fran's I am sure.

Peachtree closed. You bad. I think someone needs to help with their business model as they can't seem to stay open anywhere except the buffet.

That's really too bad, but I can't say I'm surprised. I'm guessing something else could easily make a home up there with it already built out with a kitchen.KCPowercat wrote: Peachtree closed. Re: P&L District: 14th & Main Site Proposal
Its a difficult space. Actually not so much the space itself, but the terrible entrance situation. Not only was it pretty unclear from the sidewalk where you were supposed to go, once you get inside you are faced with what appears for all intents and purposes to be a medical office building lobby. For anything to succeed up there as is, it will have to have a tremendous base of regular clientelle.trailerkid wrote: That's really too bad, but I can't say I'm surprised. Re: P&L District: 14th & Main Site Proposal
I never understood why they created the first and second floor spaces seperate restaurants. Cordish should have required tenants take a two floor section similar to Brio on the Plaza. The Bristol should have been two stories with patios on both levels and event space upstairs.
