Unless it is a new concept, it can't be anything but House of Blues.

OK I'm going to go through all these and select my dream team of retailers given the guidelines of the site plan and then my best guess.

Jazz Club = at first I think Phoenix but I like them staying on 8th street...we can't rob the rest of the core to feed this...so something new but unique. Maybe a blast from the past name of an old club?
Live music club = got to be HoB

Theme of this block = music to draw people in

This will be a music hotbed with the Drum Room returning to the President right across the street. A walk down the street will yield music mixing from these different venues.

Could be a House of Blues, but don't be shocked if it's one of the larger Hard Rock Cafe's featuring live bands weekly.

The Phoenix :puke:
Please... if it's going to be a jazz venue, let it be jazz. If it's not going to be jazz, fine. The Phoenix is to jazz what 'no doubt' is to rap. I know the Phoenix is trendy but it's not a jazz club, it's a bar/grill with folksy music, if that's what people want fine, but please don't call it jazz.

Live Music Club could also be B. B. Kings but I'd like to see HOB.

We need an original jazz club. Besides, there aren't any good chain jazz clubs. Why not get some restaurant owners and bar managers together to create a unique, one-of-a-kind, jazz house. But have it be a fun jazz club that gets raucous-- a jazz club where people aren't afraid to let loose. Use a name from KC's jazz past like Bennie Moten's, The Blue Devil, or Two Lips Page's.

Lots of different "flavors" of jazz, LG. What types do you consider real Jazz? Would New Orleans style, Preservation Hall Jazz meet your standards? Or old time, Dixieland Jazz?

No question that it has to stay true to our heritage and be a unique Kansas City jazz club.

I'd love to see them bring the Orchid Room back, undoubtedly one of the greatest in our history. Played home to Billy Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie Parker, basically all the greats at one time.

I am guessing the part that says future development is where they will put that 11 floor tower right?

We pretty much already knew this, but Mayor Barnes just confirmed on the Walk Bodine show that "at least the facade" of the Empire Theater will be saved.

i REALLY hope it's a House of Blues and NOT one of those lame HRC's with the performance spaces in them. HOB's seem to have more clout with booking agents and score good names. we need to bring those popular adult/oldies artists downtown instead of letting them perform at the AmeriStar or whatever.

Has Cordish ever landed a House of Blues? I hope we get a HRC, a HOB, and a BB Kings!
