Your favorite P&L restaurant, Summer 2017 [RIP Gordon Biersch] edition

new version of a classic thread -- let's see how the distribution compares to the previous iteration. has time been kind to 2009-2017 champion bristol? is BRGR going to capture chefburger's votes? can the alamo's chesterfield equal or best the amc marquee's 1 vote showing?

general chatter re: quality of these options, including (especially!) which ones are of low to negative quality, is also welcome. if anyone wants to lodge votes for worst offering of this group i will tally those in this first post. rampant speculation and rumor mongering sounds great, too. gogogo!!

Unfortunately, I haven't really tried many of the new places. I voted for Bar Louie based solely on a decent meal there and feel kinda dirty about it. I like 801 OK too, but it's so stupidly expensive that it's hard to give it any value points. If I'm being honest it probably still is Bristol, but I've had a couple mediocre to bad experiences there so, from my perspective at least, it's hard to vote for. I really want Cleaver and Cork to be good, but haven't bothered to actually try it. I actually kinda liked the Maker's Mark place it replaced, but hey, bourbon.

you should. between BL and pizza bar, it's a tough call as to which P&L restaurant will fail next.

interesting that the dubliner isn't on your failure imminent list. that place is huge and it is empty. my off the cuff future closing rankings:

I ASSUME GOING TO CLOSE SOON
1. gordon biersch (of course)
2. dubliner
3. pizza bar (great place to listen to the johnny's crowd watch sporting events!)
4. burger king

NEVER CLOSING EVER
1. chipotle
2. johnny's
3. mixx
4. protein house (one life crowd seriously loves this place)
5. pizza bar (on second thought, this is clearly a front of some kind and is not subject to market forces)

I 've been Dubliner a couple of times and it had modest crowds. Every time I walk by the Chophouse, it's empty and there is absolutely no sign of any activity at all. Oddly enough, Gordon Biersch was one of the more busy restaurants in the district.

Fortunately for 801, they can survive on one person having dinner there every six months.

for me, BL is just not different enough from gordon biersch or yardhouse to justify stepping in there ever again.

One thing BL does have is a late kitchen.

the fact that johnny's will serve you a (marginally better) slice late night makes it even more ridiculous that pizza bar exists. give! us! mellow! mushroom!!!

i've been to dubliner for friday lunch and for friday happy hour in the past month and i've only seen maybe 8 other customers inside total, but happy to hear it's doing well i guess. reminds me of that old saying: the rising tide benefits both the two irish boats and all those other boats i like more than the irish ones

I'd only ever run into Mellow Mushroom in the fairly deep south, so assumed it was a very regional thing, but it looks like they're expanding pretty rapidly.

I read the KCStar article on Gordon Biersch. Looks like they are keeping their other area restaurants. That begs a question - did Gordon Biersch get forced out by Cordish or simply decide the profit margin was better in the suburbs? I certainly hope its the former. The P&L District doesn't have the greatest restaurant line-up and I'd be disappointed to hear what I thought was one of the better restaurants down there could not make a go of it. Plus - I still like the idea of Brewpubs no matter how out of fashion they are - and still would like to see one downtown.

So when will the Joe's KC hybrid be open in the former Gordon Biersch spot? I will be in KC over Christmas, hoping to eat there.

Yeah, noticed that a few days ago.

“County Road Ice House” is less lawsuit-inviting, I assume.

Yea, turns out the one "county line" location in Texas wasn't ok with another restaurant using that name a few states away.
Yep - figured that might be the case. I actually thought it was part of the same restaurant group when it was announced. Glad it's not.
