This surface lot will turn into a crime haven for post-p&l brawls, assaults, & robberies.

Wasn't the redevelopment rights given to CWB during the admin of Barnes?  Blame her because the city is  just implementing an agreement made by her.
I may be right.  I may be wrong.  But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

Barnes deserves blame, but Funk has shown no qualms about breaking other agreements made by the Barnes administration, so he deserves some blame as well for carrying this out.

Of course he care, he wants more of it.  He's not a parking garage kind of guy and, hence, has a strong connection to the average Kansas Citian.

Agreements, yes.  Contracts, no.  And this is a contract issue.

I have no idea, that's why I asked the question....that would be an idiotic redevelopment contract if you ask me.

Look at the East Village.  The city buys the land and clears it.  Same for P&L.  The land is therefore empty.  At least with a parking lot it provides a source of income to help pay for the redevelopment.

Don't forget the issue in the past that the city was to provide some parking for the SC.  Maybe this is it.

my question was does the contract state the city help pay for the design of a surface lot on this land as you stated?

Is this a parking lot or a parking garage?  Why the excavation?

Who is going to operate and receive the parking funds?  If it is the city then why shouldn't it pay for the construction of the parking lot?  Is this to be the SC parking lot required that the city provide?

The TIF Commission agreed in November of 2004 that it would acquire the property, demolish the improvements and repave with asphalt, stripe for parking and otherwise put it in compliance with city codes for parking lots.

Well, the parking lot is online or close to it.  There is one thing the City can do fast.  :?

Apparently there are plans (or were) to build a 6 story Airbnb Hotel at 1200 Grand. Has anyone heard of this proposal before?

I haven't heard of that. I know Simmons Bank is in that building now. Unless the Palace Clothing building across 12th is being eyed for that now. The only other thing I can think of was that it was tossed around prior to a tenant being found.

It could also be 1110 Grand aka the Borel Building. It's 6-stories and is being renovated. I think there was a Kindler boutique hotel plan proposed there. Maybe that fell through.
