Family gets permission to sue over dress code
Arthur Benson, the attorney for a family that has complained about the dress code at the Power & Light District, said today he has received right-to-sue letters from the Missouri Commission on Human Rights.

Benson said he plans to confer with the family and obtain their approval to file a lawsuit, but he would have no further comment at this time.

It will be interesting to see whether they settle out of court or insist upon a judgement.  It will say a lot about them won't it?

And it won't say a lot about Cordish?

Will probably say more about Cordish either way.
I may be right.  I may be wrong.  But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

I don't see how either option shows much of anything towards either party.  There's (Monetary) benefits and negatives to each.  There's no homerun ball to be found, unless of course Cordish tosses out a settlement for an absurdly large amount..in which case you both have very valid points.

If its a decently small (But still reasonable) settlement offer (I'm thinking 10k - 50k), then who knows.  At that point we'll get to see what the real elephant in the room is.

The city has passed an ordinance authorizing Regulated Industries to go around enforcing bar dress codes.

What a fucking joke.

The dress code clearly touches on a political issue that pushes buttons at city hall that takes precident above anything and everything else.  They had to "send a signal". for goodness sake.

from what I understand, if the bar has a dress code, liquor control during their inspections can judge if the dress code is being enforced and can run sting operations to ensure dress codes are fairly enforced....one guess where all those stings will take place.

R.I. has no staff now, so this should help them out &

Coat and tie - but just for you.

Supposedly the regulated industry folks will start showing up to verify that establishments don't have folks inside that violate the posted dress code and will engage in sting operations to try and send folks in wearing kit that doesn't meet the posted policy.

Cordish Co. tries to block lawsuit over alleged dress code violations
The Cordish Co., trying to block a possible lawsuit over alleged dress code violations at the Power & Light District, is accusing the Missouri Human Rights Commission of ?rubberstamping? discrimination complaints....

The Cordish lawsuit claims that under Missouri law, the Kansas City Human Relations Department is charged with investigating local discrimination claims and at least 180 days must pass before a lawsuit is allowed to be filed.

Power & Light dress code lawsuit dismissed but could be refiled
A federal judge dismissed a class-action discrimination lawsuit against the Power & Light District's owner, Cordish Co., after the plaintiffs failed to serve Cordish and other defendants, the Star reported. Yep, that'll get your lawsuit tossed.

However, since the judge dismissed the lawsuit without prejudice, the lawsuit can be refiled.
