I'm on the fence about the entire policy, but fyi the Lucky Strike dress code is a national dress code policy. I would expect Cordish will threaten business will leave town if this passes.chrizow wrote: SAVE DOWNTOWN....

Again chriz? You say you don't equate the two but continue to post things like that.
The title is too much (especially me getting it 7 times) but I emailed the council.
Its funny how many were for business rights when it came to smoking but are now against them for the dress code and vice versa.

P+L is the reason 95% of the new arrivals are coming downtown. To many from the suburbs...P+L is the only downtown they really know.staubio wrote: It is offensive that they are suggesting that they basically define downtown as a whole despite being a very small part of it -- and it gives the impression that they are speaking for the entire neighborhood despite a wide variety of opinions on this issue in the neighborhood.
Re: Poll: Power & Light District Dress Code
Most suburbanites think of the P&L district as Downtown anyways...I mean...really...what's downtown outside of the P&L district?

I agree with staub. P&l is a small part of downtown with lots of unique areas. Come down and explore all of them if you aren't aware of them

Re: Poll: Power & Light District Dress Code
The most disturbing thing about the dress code policy inquiry is the COMPLETE IGNORANCE AND APATHY to the violence among inner city, Black men in this community. If the dress code is all about race, where is the dialogue about violence? Or is that too real + complex a subject for the whites and middle class Blacks? Throwing bras at a city council meeting is certainly easier.chrizow wrote: SAVE DOWNTOWN....

There is no doubt there are racial overtones to dress code policies here or elsewhere. But the cowardice of failing to address the causes of dress code policy and instead address it independently of the social problems inherently associated is transparent and pathetic.

Your agruement has one fatal flaw: That a dress code is created due to the inherient violence of the dress that it prohibits.trailerkid wrote: There is no doubt there are racial overtones to dress code policies here or elsewhere. Just because you think thats the case, doesn't mean that it is the case. Sure there are racial undertones, and sure the violence itself needs adressed, BUT...you fail to realize that certain dress codes don't apply directly to race and inner city violence. Take "No sagging pants" as an example, I've seen sagging pants in the streets of Hollywood, in 90210 itself...but does that mean there's a racial problem underlying the singling out of Sagging pants, or that the dress code itself singles out blacks in hollywood hills?

video of random black guy in white t-shirt being escorted out of the p+l.
proposed new dress code rule:
only XXXLT white t-shirts banned, not white v-neck American Apparel t-shirts.

They also wouldn't let a pitch staffer in with a white tshirt...and he was white. Much easier to claim racism when you don't report all the facts though.
So dress codes bad if the majority of patrons are white but they are cool if the majority of patrons are black...makes sense.

Re: Poll: Power & Light District Dress Code
Is it cowardace when no one knows the solution? Human civilization has been around for several millenia now and no one has yet come up with a successful way to fully eliminate poverty and/or the increased violence associated with it.trailerkid wrote: The most disturbing thing about the dress code policy inquiry is the COMPLETE IGNORANCE AND APATHY to the violence among inner city, Black men in this community. From the Star:
TALK ABOUT RACE, THE LOCAL ECONOMY, REURBANIZING THE CENTRAL CITY, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, URBAN POVERTY, ETC., ETC., ETC...no one cares about a dress code for some tacky, party bars except the small handful of people that got their feelings hurt because they didn't make themselves aware of a now famous dress code that is inescapably publicized. MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIVES.
This going to end up blowing up in the Council's face.Cordish Cos., Downtown Council, NAACP, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Crown Center, the Plaza, the President Hotel and several restaurant associations are all opposed to the dress code policy
