It would have  a fairly good footprint. about 10 feet longer than the longest mobile home. a 15 X 100 I could do a lot with that space.

I'm wondering what will happen with the short skywalk.  Will it be removed or what?  Is Jenkins storage right now?  A few snapshots for a visual.  Annie, that would be almost like having a sun-porch attached to your tralier.

i believe that "honky tube" just connects to the one that crosses walnut and then 12th so town pavilion people don't have to go outside to get to work?

Just look in the Topeka area for a new trailer with the floor dimensions of the Jenkins building.  :)

Very funny folks. I was trying to make a point that even as slender as this building is, it really has a lot of potential being made into condos or offices. There might not be very much depth to it with it being practically a front breaking up an almost mundane parking garage. there is though the width to the building creating the prime space.

On a side note I do miss my old trailer and I know that I will not get it back. This has been a hard year for me being practically homeless I hope that 2008 is better.

In walking by Friday night, there was activity in the windows.  Apparently, as part of the Urban Culture Project, there are some art students taking turns living in the street level windows of the Jenkins building.  It's very peculiar.  There was no one in them when we walked by, but I left them a note "from the outside" which I stuck on the glass so that they could read it when they returned.

A few pictures...I suggest you walk by if in the area.  Weird....

The building isn't listed as proposed in this report...
http://www.downtownkc.org/FileUploads/D ... Report.pdf

Given the tight rental market downtown (94-96% occupancy I hear), methinks it would make better apts than condos, unless they are under $200K.  They could always convert to condo in 5-10 years otherwise.

I've seen them a few times.  One weekend, there was a guy playing chess in one of the spaces and people were writing down moves and taping them to the window.  Sort of like him playing the people on the street.  I've never seen them during the week, though.  But I usually only walk by during the week in the evening, so maybe they're there during the day?

This could be one of the most innovative and unusual projects if they get it done.

I remember something like this being proposed when the Jenkins building was torn (all but the façade) down to make room for the parking garage accompanying the 1201 Walnut building. I think that was back in the early 90's. At that time, the demand for housing inside the loop was not very high.

It's a strange setting in that the preserved portion of the Jenkins building is not very deep. Many dwelling in urban setting are very deep but narrow - these condo's would be the exact opposite wide but shallow. It will be interesting how they handle the interaction with the attached public garage.

that's actually not a bad plan for the space available. one thing that's nice about the design is lots of natural light with all the windows.

they should partner with Ikea to show how you can furnish the space

Yeah, that's what they'd be doing with hourly rates.
