Yea, but he's not supposed to play till the second half of the season.  I don't see them scheduling KC during the second half if we have to use a high school stadium, it would be a waste.  But I don't know...
Good point.  You might be right.

I still think washington square park would be a great location for the new soccer stadium. And it might help union station as well.

Though I'd love to walk to games, that location is too valuable to consume for the sake of 20-30 events per year.  I'd love to see some reclaimed floodplain in Riverside or some empty land in the West Bottoms get used.

Tear the roof off Kemper and call it an outdoor soccer stadium perhaps?  :D

I think Washington Square park is the coolest outdoor space dowtown.  I'd (personally) hate to give it to any pro sports team. I think the inner Northland would be agreat place for an MLS stadium and youth soccer field combo.

Interesting idea. Kinda like ripping the roof off of a mall to create an open-air shopping center. Could Kemper fit an MLS-size field? And would it be cost-effective to convert Kemper to that use?

Kemper couldn't fit an MLS field. You'd have to rip 3 sides out and it wouldn't be worth the expense. Like trying to fit the KS Speedway inside Arrowhead.

So an MLS field is significantly larger than an AFL field?

That was one of the proposed locations for a ballpark.

I understand that giving up green space in an urban enviroment is a "no no", but penn valley park is just a short distance away.

I would be completely cool with putting it in Penn Valley Park.  I think KC has plenty of green space already, and I'm not a firm believer in absolute no-no's.  I'm just especially partially to Washington Square Park.

I'm just trying to find away to fill the void of this city not pursuing a dt ballpark. It would be a lose, lose situation for both the team, and the city if they decided to build this soccer stadium at Bannister. I think this team, along with the city would benefit if it were near crown center.

A soccer field is larger than a football field. Usually 110 - 120 yds long x 68 to 75 yards wide. A football field is only 53.33 yards wide.

I don't think there's anywhere near downtown with enough available space.

Doesn't Penn Valley park have enough space?

I don't think a soccer stadium belongs downtown. There are what, 10-15 home games? It would be empty the rest of the year. No thanks. I wouldn't mind if it were on the other side of the river somewhere.
