Three runs allowed isn't too terrible.  Only managing to muster a single run...not so good.  Elarton looked all right except on those homers, and even they weren't that bad.  The second one was barely even a home run.  Berroa had two at bats in which he didn't swing at the first pitch he saw...maybe he wasn't feeling well today?  Oh well.  Buck's first AB looked pretty good when he drove it deep to dead center, but it was the same old for him after that.  I was pretty unimpressed with the rest of the offense as well, particularly Grudzielanek and Mientkiewicz (although both of them had a few great defensive plays).  Looks like the Royals were denied in their attempt to get above .500 for the first time in two years.  I guess we'll probably have to wait at least until next April to see that, if only for a day or two.

At the risk of sounding like someones dad, I was 22 when I used these beauties. One of my dads best buddies was the pitching coach for the A's, he sold me these for face value. These were the first 3 World Series games ever played here, we won Games 3 & 4 but lost game 5. Philly won game 6 at home to end it. I also went to game 2 of the 85 series. We lost despite Charlie Liebrant pitching a 3 hitter. Great times. They WILL be back in the Series again someday.

To be fair, Mientkiewicz isn't very good against left handed pitching, and he was facing very good left handed pitching. No surprises there.

I don't know what was up with Grudzielanek at the plate. He was doing his Angel Berroa impression on low and outside sliders.

Grudzielanek will swing and miss at pitches low and away more times than you'll be able to count this season.  Any pitcher worth his salt will know from scouting reports that the breaking ball down and away is Mark's weekness at the plate.

He is a streaky hitter at best.

When he's hot, he'll one of the very best contact hitting second basemen in the game for 8 to 12 games.  Then, he'll go ice cold for 3 weeks.

Hopefully, he'll be ON more than he is OFF.  And, his back will not bother him nearly as much for the Royals as it did while in StL.

All in all, Grudz is an awesome dude and a solid MLer.  You'll end up loving Sanders as well.

I have some bad news for you.  Check out Angel Berroa's comparables:

  • great game, wow, what a great game. definitely worth the trip, amazing. great day for baseball, i like cold weather, and in that shade, it felt like 40ish, even though it was in the 50's. i was impressed with the way the royals handled the impending campaign, there did not beat everyone over the head all day with vote yes on questions one and two tomorrow or anything. man, the k looked great. if you were there watching that game yesterday, like i was, i refuse to believe that you cannot understand why people want to keep that place. you cannot argue how great it looked.

    some quick points

i heard people bitching about the new ticket system, with the scanners, and i actually heard people say they were still waiting to get in - in the 4th inning. bullshit. i went to the gate to say hey to mom, and that was at the top of the 2nd, and there was noone in any lines

scott elarton is a good pickup so far, if he pitches like that all year, 3.00 era, i would be happy.

elmer dessens, if he pitches like that all year, i would be happy

angel berroa, who, got a free pass from his coaches and manager last season to swing away all of the time, and got criticized here and on other message boards for it, took a lot of pitches yesterday. i knew there was a good reason that the royals told him to swing away last year all of the time, and for good reason. why not? you are a 100 loss team, why not just swing?? he looks good, and great d this spring for him.

mark teahen, looks a lot less overmatched this year. last year he looked lost. yesterday, he looked a lot more comfortable.

why did we boo mike sweeney, a future hall of famer, for a ground out?

    man, that field looked AWESOME.

    man, that barbecue was AWESOME.

man, why did i leave my phone in the car and miss grid's phone calls ?

great game. had a great time. worth the trip. ate too much though.

You are a fat, comb over wearing, drunkard & an insecure ass that thinks you know a great deal more than you do. In fact, you're probably drunk right now which is why you're on here talking shit like the bad moderator you are.-Thrillcekr

I had a good time. I hurt today. Shoulda wore sunblock.

I had forgotten just how desolate the area around TSC was til yesterday. There is just nothing but empty fields around it. Really feeds into the midwestern middle-of-nowhere theme.

Everytime I went to the bathroom someone joked about voting yes to make the bathrooms bigger. It took a full inning to use the john. I talked to eight people about the vote, half wanted the renovations, half didn't, but all thought it wasn't a very good plan. Only four of them lived in Jackson County though, and three of them wanted the renovations. Small sample I suppose.

I thought we were under attack when the B-2 Bomber flew right over my head.

Good times though despite about the most boring game of baseball possible (and I love baseball). The field itself looks great, the tailgating was awesome, and the beer was cold.
