I would think that if Trent's still here by training camp, and physically able, he'll be the starter.  There's no way we could waste $7mil on the bench, especially if he's capable of starting.

We got a RB and a kicker on day two. Just the pieces we needed.

I saw Darrell Jackson was acquired for a fourth round pick. Wes Welker was also dealt a few months ago for a second round draft pick. How much you want to bet both of them are better than our first rounder?

I suspect the performance from Tynes in the playoffs is still leaving a bad taste in King Carl's mouth. That kicker from UCLA is probably the best PK in this draft. He also was the first kicker to be drafted this year out of 3 total.

It doesn't say that in the article at all. It even says he could be released.

KCTV5 had just reported that there is enough money under the salary cap to honor his contract.  King Carl felt that Trent was too "valuable of a player" to end his stint in KC that way that it would've, had we traded Trent.

But their biggest predraft goal was to fortify at cornerback, where they have the aging Ty Law and Patrick Surtain and little else of substance. Not one of the seven players they selected, including the four on Sunday as the draft concluded, is capable of playing cornerback.

When the draft was finished, the Chiefs acknowledged this was their biggest failure of the weekend.

Really? Offensive line is not much of a concern?

I wasn't too impressed with our draft this year.  We never seem to draft very well so that really wasn't much of a surprise.  Occassionally we find a diamond in the rough in the late rounds.  Hopefully that turns out the be the case for us this year.

Bowe may turn out to be a fantastic receiver and blah, blah, blah... but we are in a world of shit with our offensive line and our defensive tackle situation.  Barring the possibility of miracle or two in free agency, I'd say us Chiefs fans should probably buckle down for a long and miserable season.

So... this sucks.
After the Chiefs failed to trade Green to the Miami Dolphins during the weekend draft, agent Jim Steiner said Green wasn’t interested in playing for the Chiefs.

“Trent’s not going to be returning,” Steiner said. “They’ve said Brodie Croyle is going to be the No. 1 or No. 2 quarterback. They brought back Damon Huard. They’ve told Trent they want to get younger. So the Chiefs determined that, not Trent. That’s not going to happen. It’s grossly unfair of the Chiefs to keep Trent on their roster.”
By refusing to take a pay cut, he can put considerable pressure on the Chiefs and their salary cap. Counting his salary and various bonuses, Green costs the Chiefs more than $9.1 million against their cap.

That number would be greatly reduced if he is traded or released. But Peterson said the Chiefs could carry Green’s cap number through the end of the season and implied the Chiefs would not release Green, a move that would allow him to sign with Miami.

“I’ve said it before: He’s far too valuable to this organization … to simply say goodbye to him in that fashion,” Peterson said. “He’s under contract to the Kansas City Chiefs. We’ve never said from the beginning that he’s not here to compete for the starting job.

“I’m not going to make any predictions. I’m simply going to say again that he’s under contract.”

Why on earth do people

1) watch the draft or
2) analyze who won or who lost?

nobody has a freaking clue, and for anybody to suggest the Thiefs should've take X player or Y player, is the height of idiocy.  Nobody has seen these guys play even one time.  If you saw Bowe in the Sugar Bowl, I doubt you remembered him.

And Joe Staley?  You didn't see him.  EVER.  EVER.  So please.

I know that Staley plays OT, and that's really all I needed to know.

I do agree, that analysis after the draft is stupid. I saw one that said the Chiefs were losers because they didn't trade Trent. Huh?

So did Trezelle Jenkins.

Inasmuch as I mock the team, they have had a couple very good drafts lately IMO.  Based on what I"ve seen on the field.  People were moaning about them taking Hali last year, and he turned out to be a damn good pass rusher.  The safeties are sweet, also.

1/2 of NFL first rounders will be busts.  You just don't know which 1/2.    In 2002, everyone talked about how Ryan "Fat Bust" Sims would dominate.  Turns out, the 4th rounder we got that year (Allen) was the stud.

Staley may be a bust too, my point is I thought they should have gone for an offensive tackle since that seems to be the biggest area of need. WR is a need to, but not nearly as big a need in my opinion. I don't know heads or tails about Bowe or Staley, but in my humble fan's opinion, OT is a much bigger priority.

Herm just said Trent will be in open competition for the QB job and that hasn't changed since the last game. Huh? Didn't he say before the Indianapolis game that Trent would be the starter for next year?

The Thiefs have always put a premium on players from the Power Conferences & top programs.  I generally would do the same, as well.  Taking a guy from Central Mich. in the first round wouldn't have fit with their philosophy, and I knew Staley wasn't going to be the pick b/c of that.

Herm is a liar, on many issues.  Trent will not be here next year regardless.  Apparently they will cut him.....I suppose spiting the Dolphins by us keeping him, won't benefit us in the end.

We have them a 2 for Surtain, then signed him to a monster contract (Fish didn't want to pay him anyway).  Then they moan about a 3 for a proven NFL QB.  A holes.

Even if Casey Weigmann decides to come back this season, there will be three new starters on the line. The only addition the Chiefs made to that tattered unit is with their sixth-round pick Herbert Taylor. Seems a little late in the process to address the need there.
I guess D.A. isn't paying attention.

Chiefs release Hicks
The Kansas City Star

Defensive end Eric Hicks, who has spent his entire career in Kansas City, was released by the Chiefs on Tuesday.

Hicks ranks fifth in Chiefs history with 44.5 career sacks, but he was strictly a reserve in 2006 after starting most games since 1999. He signed a rookie free-agent contract with the Chiefs in 1998 out of Maryland.

The release wasn’t unexpected considering that Hicks was eating up a large chunk of the Chiefs’ salary cap even though his days as a starter are over. He was due to make $4,450,000 this season.
