It will be interesting to see how Russel Wilson does this year.

My guess, teams will start using a linebacker to spy on him to cut down the long scrambles.

He did throw deep alot, but a lot of his deep passes were basically jump balls. I doubt if that is a winning strategy in the regular season.

Still, he seems talented.

Anyway, I don't think Cassel has looked that bad. As mean, a few passes should have been caught.

And, Seattle just scored again. 44-7!
Wow, you serious, Clark?

Dude had one completion and 8 yards midway through the second half.

He made some very smart quick-thinking decisions. His throws were fairly accurate. A good portion of them should have been caught. That was in the first half. The second half is a slightly different story, but i dont count it because many of our starters were out by then.

Meant second quarter.

And yeah, I watched the game, unfortunately.

And saw a rookie quarterback in his first start lead his team in outright beat down going 13 of 19 for 185 yards and two touchdowns. Oh, and 58 yards on two rushes.

Looks like that first preseason game might've been a fluke.

I'm shocked that you would come in with that viewpoint.

Which is shocking?

The part where Russell Wilson is a rookie third round pick that has the NFL's best preseason quarterback rating in the league?

Or the part where Pioli and Hunt could have drafted this kid, had it not been for their abhorrence to drafting a quarterback and instead spent a pick on a project at Offensive Tackle in the third round?

The funny thing is Glass and Hunt are similar in a lot of ways. Cheap, hyper conservative, afraid to address the currency of their respective leagues.

One just hates pitching and the other hates quarterbacks. But, both seemingly think they can compete without them.

In each of the last three seasons, Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider has said that he wants a quarterback who can "tilt the room."

Can you imagine this statement being made around here?

I'm not totally giving up on Cassel, but after this weekend's game I found myself wondering if the Chiefs are wasting too much energy and too many draft picks trying to develop a young QB. Going back to the DeBerg era, their best seasons have come with veteran QBs that they sign for a few years and then move on. It's not how I would prefer them to do it, but they simply don't seem able to develop younger players at that position. It's a riskier position to try and develop, so going with veteran QBs would mean they wouldn't be gambling with those draft picks.

I guess the counterargument is that they didn't win any titles with veteran QBs, either.

What young QBs have they drafted? The last first rounder was Todd Blackledge in 1984. The only ones they have drafted seem to be late in the draft as a lottery ticket, and they only seem to do that once every few years. And its not like those vets you talk about produced that much success either - no Super Bowls, one AFC Championship game, zero playoff wins since 1997.

At least 4 of those guys - Blackledge, Elkins, Blundin, and Croyle - I wouldn't classify as lottery tickets.

Blackledge certainly wasn't. I was young with Elkins and Blundin but I never really felt like they had a real shot at the starting gig. Croyle was probably seen as a QB of the future. Point is we really haven't tried to develop many QBs. Maybe it wouldn't work, but it would be a nice change seeing as bringing in these re-treads hasn't gotten us to where we need to go.

You know, I went back and looked at the vets they brought in and there was far more turnover than I remember. I was under the impression that the starters had gone something like DeBerg-Montana-Gannon-Green and then the talentless hydra that was Huard/Croyle/Thigpen/Palko/Orton/Cassel.

Turns out the that first group was DeBerg-Montana-Gannon-Green was really DeBerg-Kreig-Montana-Bono-Grbac-Gannon-Grbac-Moon-Green. So I amend my original thought to: should the Chiefs even bother with having a quarterback?
