Royals to rename Kauffman Stadium

Post by AllThingsKC »

According to "a source," the Royals could announce the new corporate name as soon as Monday. The source said it is a bank, possibly Arvest Bank.

Classy. Should just skip the middle man and call it Old Roy Field at Wal-Mart Savings & Loan Stadium.

Wasn't there a rumor about Arrowhead being renamed and the announcement happening during Monday Night Football?

Its not that I don't beleive it, but until it happens -- and even after -- why worry.

I think this is good. It brigs some nice attention to the place. Also, I'm concerned that people will get confused and show up at the Kauffman PAC when they're trying to go to a game, or show up at the stadium when they're trying to go to the opera or ballet. That would be a drag.

Maybe we can get a corporate sponsor for KCMO and thereby avoid any more confusion with KCK, while getting some extra, much-needed funds for our fair city.

Does Arvest even have branches here? They don't have much of a presence. I can't see why they'd want to put their name in a market they're not big in.

I hope its Bank of America. That would be perfect with our ownership.

The only reason why it's possibly Arvest is because the CEO (or someone) is the son of somebody important at Wal-Mart, who is also the cousin of the mother's uncle....or something. And since David Glass was the CEO of Wal-Mart, some people think it is Arvest Bank.

They explained the connection on TV, but I don't remember it very well.

At least wait until the All Star Game is over before renaming it. Ewing Kauffman put the Royals on the map, and it would be a slap in the face to that family to rename the stadium right before the ASG. But I wouldn't put it past David Glass to do something like that.

Maybe they can just sell the TSC name instead of the stadiums.

They had commercial on during MNF when the Chiefs were playing. Looked like they were opening a dozen or so local branches. That was honestly the first time I'd ever heard of them.

There's been one on Shawnee Mission Parkway and Nall for about a year.
