He adds it would be built for youth hockey and to satisfy the demands for a hockey facility up north, but it would be NHL-ready should a team relocate here.
the other week when someone linked to the ESPN folks talking about a "new ownership group" surfacing in KC i wanted to ask about that, but forgot...so this sort of brings that back up. Seems like the Argosy owner(s) may be part of it. Any other ideas?
I'm trying to think of reasons this could possibly be announced before a team is even secured.
1. Riverside and/or Argosy owner wanted a youth hockey rink anyway. They're going to make it NHL caliber so if a team does come, they'll get some rent from it.
2. NHL ownership group is already in place including Argosy owner who put this together so that they would practice in Riverside instead of somewhere else.
3. The Argosy owner is the leader or the only member of an ownership group and he wants the practice space in Riverside so he can watch the team practice and be back in his office in 5 minutes.
4. Part of an arrangement for Argosy owner to become a part of the NHL ownership group.
5. Team is already secured but nothing has leaked yet. This needed to be announced now so that it would be ready for the team once they moved here. The team would not be able to move until at least after this season so they don't want to kill ticket sales for this current season.
Hmmm, the lack of media publicity is odd. Perhaps they want this under the radar. Seems strange that this kind of a development (NHL angle or not) would not be some sort of news....
