Is it weird that they play the packers twice?

Yea, I thought there was an unwritten rule that you don't play preseason games against regular season opponents with the only exception being rivalry games like the Rams.

Given that there are two Monday night games, I can only assume that the Chiefs will be terrible this year.

Chiefs trade down (and pick up an extra 3rd round pick), then select a big physical receiver with work ethic problems named Dwayne Bowe Jonathan Baldwin.

MU's Aldon Smith (San Fran) and Blaine Gabbert (Jacksonville) both taken in the first ten picks.

He looked terrible in the Mizzou - Iowa bowl game.  Iowa won on a freak play but no thanks to Stanzi.

Yes he didn't look great in the bowl game but he is a very good QB and could turn into a great QB after sitting for a couple years. He needs to build some more upper body strength. We have the luxury right now of sitting him.

Not a Stanzi fan but we'll see. Not a surprise at all as the Chiefs brass is tight with Kirk Ferentz. At least Stanzi already knows one of his wideouts (Moeaki).

I was pretty pleasantly surprised with our draft. I don't know a ton about the players we selected, but they seem to fill some needs and have some decent upside. Baldwin, for his flaws, seems to be a very athletic big wideout - and that seems to be the trend in the NFL. If they can reach Bowe, I have confidence in reaching Baldwin. That Justin Houston guy I saw was projected as a first rounder in some mocks - seems to be a nice gamble pick to take with the extra pick they acquired from Cleveland.  Any draftniks care to weigh in?

The reason Justin Houston fell so far was due to him apparently testing positive for marijuana at the combine. He has a tremendous amount of talent and I am really excited to have him. You would hope he would be a bit smarter than to do drugs right before the biggest day of his life before the draft though.

Season or no season?  Odds?  Partial season?

One effect this may have on teams is that they will be getting younger.  Face it, the old timers, with the lack of off-season workouts, will have a harder time getting back into shape.  So more room for young blood.
I may be right.  I may be wrong.  But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

Young players are also cheaper and I suspect the owners will have to make some concessions they don't want to make.

Secret meeting last night between the Commish and NFLPA Rep so I guess that's encouraging.

As part of the new CBA, teams will have to go above a "salary floor" requiring them to spend a certain amount of money. Supposedly the Chiefs are going to be some $30-50 million under the floor, so there should be some spending on free agents in the few days of free agency. Could be a whirlwind so I hope Pioli did his homework.

heard there may be a "phase in period" of the that specific term so teams like ours don't have to arbitrarily pay every new player they pick-up 5mil.  Give them time to rework current contracts to help increase them to where they comply with the salary floor.  otherwise, yeah, we'd have to spend a boat load over that brief period.

more likely that will be in full effect by next year.  but who knows?  i'd love to see them pick up some big names for a season because they have to hit a certain number

Chiefs may be in on FB Leron McClain of the Ravens. ILB, WR and RT seem to be the biggest areas of need. Brandon Flowers and Tamba Hali may be signed to long-term deals too.
