Seemed like a good time in St. Louis last night. Its coming to KC in 2012 supposedly. No official announcement yet, official word is expected in August.

I really hope this is true. I also hope they have the "fan fest" downtown rather  than the parking lots at the stadiums. I'm sure they'll have some stuff at the stadium, but they need things downtown. I just can't imagine people wanting to drive to the stadiums on Sat/Sun before the allstar game if nothing is going on until the celeb softball game Sunday night.

By the way, who will our local reps be in the Celeb game? Sudakis and Rudd? These are important things that need to be debated in the next three years.

Note, we will also have an obligatory entry in the HR Derby. If Greinke is our only all-star, it will have to be him.

Chris Cooper, Don Cheadle, David Cook, Garth Brooks, Rush Limbaugh, Brad Pitt?

I was doing some thinking last night on Royals HR derby participation and did a little checking.

In the history of the event we have only had two participants and a total of 3 home runs - dead last in both categories.  Our last appearance was Danny Tartaball - 18 years ago.

If that doesn't sum up the last couple of years of Royals offensive futility, I don't know what does.

I don't about that. Doesn't seem like ESPN/MLB goes with celebs with the gravitas of a Cooper, Pitt or Cheadle. I'm hoping the whole David Cook thing is long forgotten by then.

Who are our Nelly, Chingy and Jenna Fischer? We'll probably end up with Dr. Phil, David Cook, Dani Boatwright and Tech9. And Chris Gaines.

What about Phil Witt? Or the gay guy from "Real World"? I know a guy from KC that was a set assistant for "Transformers" - we could use him.

And don't forget Guy Fieri - he goes to Royals games all the time.

Paul Rudd and Jason Sudeikis are both big sports fans, so I'd almost guarantee they are there. David Cook will still be popular, so I'm guessing he'll be there too (when was the last time Nelly had a popular song?). I don't even know who Chingy is, or the girl that was from "24", and I didn't know who that Backstreet Boy was either.

Scott Foley, Rob Riggle, and I believe David Koechner are all from the area too.

You are completley out of your mind.

I'll give you a pair of tickets to the all star game if there is a trolley line or a hotel open by mid 2012.

I'll give you two pair if they are both built by then.

Should have built the rolling roof.

A superbowl and final four would have helped justify trolley and convention hotels instead of just one all star game.

Renovating the stadiums and not building that roof was one of the most assine things this city has ever done.  If they were not going to build the roof, they should have just done nothing.

I know...can you just let me dream? :)

Seems a little more relevant than which d-list celebrity will show up

Yea, but it's one of the main reason's I wanted the roof.

Hosting the All Star Game, Super Bowl and Final Four in a short period of time "might" of gotten this city into gear to build a few things.  If we were to have built the roof, we would have a reason (especially for the general public) and a short time frame to expand Bartle, build a convention hotel, build some sort of fixed transit in the city and possibly even rebuild I-70 east of Downtown.

Not to mention create a new icon for the city and make the Truman Sports Complex an architectural destination.

I knew the day that vote didn't pass, none of that stuff would happen by 2020, let alone 2012.

But hey, we get the all star game and at least we will have new Blue Ridge Blvd bridge over I-70 by then so people staying at the Sheriton don't have to walk across a crumbling 2 foot sidewalk across the interstate.

Says you. Kill joy. Want to just skip ahead to the predictable end of this thread three years from now when GRID claims KC is an embarassment because he saw someone where a KU hat to the all star game?

Forgot about that.

Damn place will be full of JoCo KU crap wearing fans.  Most JaCo people won't be able to afford to go or won't be able to pass up on scalping tix to the JoCo crowd that must go where they can see people and be seen (KU shirt and all).

Even though they paid for the stadium ;)....and voted down the roof...

Maybe some guy from Boston will ask one of them why the fuck they are dressed for a college basketball game at the MLB All Star Game.  I would give anything to see that.

You started it  :D
