Well, it sure helped the NHL's financial future in Pittsburgh already! The jury is still out on the Nashville situation.droopy wrote: I wonder what the bribery cost of the Sprint Center has and will have on the NHL. That's an interesting angle.

The "bribery cost" is an old game. For years, all a NFL owner had to do was book a plane ticket to Phoenix. Baseball owners used Tampa/St Pete the same way for years.droopy wrote: I wonder what the bribery cost of the Sprint Center has and will have on the NHL. That's an interesting angle.
So, if we can't have an anchor tennant, is there a positive economic impact for the city as insanely rich NHL and NBA owners make trips to KC to scare their local sports commissions into improvements?

Probably, but it's likely offset by the garbage pre-season games those 2 leagus will play here that drain cash out of our economy.jimb wrote: The "bribery cost" is an old game. Apparently Jerry Jones is having a devil of a time landing a naming deal for his new football palace in these trying economic times. Sure as hell aren't going to be able to talk any banks or financial outfits into that PR mess. It will be interesting to see what the Chiefs manage to land.

The payday loan industry is doing well these days... maybe Arrowhead Field at Check into Cash Stadium?LenexatoKCMO wrote: Apparently Jerry Jones is having a devil of a time landing a naming deal for his new football palace in these trying economic times. They could have a promotion where you sign over a $500 paycheck in exchange for an uper deck ticket.BSykes wrote: The payday loan industry is doing well these days... maybe Arrowhead Field at Check into Cash Stadium?
Re: Chiefs to rename Arrowhead Stadium
14 corporations receiving funds from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (original $300 Billion) have naming rights to major stadiums. It is probably not the best PR for a company receiving government relief to pick up naming rights for $400 million (Citigroup). I just hope we don't end up being the next Minute Maid Park, formerly known as "Houston's Enron Field"

sounds like a convenient excuse. when did this go public? long before december 2007, right?LenexatoKCMO wrote: Apparently Jerry Jones is having a devil of a time landing a naming deal for his new football palace in these trying economic times. Paper tiger. You have to market your company to make money. You have to spend even more on marketing the tougher the market gets.
It's idiotic to loan a company money for a bailout and they be mad at them because the spent money on marketing. You present a buisness plan to a bank that has zero dollars for marketing in it and they would never approve your loan.

Good point Shinatoo. Thats marketing their product to us. You have to spend money in order to make more money. But I think there needs to be a limit.

Well, there is marketing and then there is marketing. Perception and reality are different things to different people. Many people view naming rights to arenas and stadiums to be corporate ego boosters for the big shots with the perks given for naming rights instead of actually advertising or marketing products via TV, radio, papers, and magazines.shinatoo wrote: Paper tiger. Yes, yes, yes, marketing and advertising are two separate things but for many there is no difference. Remember. perception and reality.
I may be right. I may be wrong. But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

Re: Chiefs to rename Arrowhead Stadium
Bob Gretz: ARROWHEAD ABOUT TO GET NEW NAME
Chiefs refute report on naming rightsOver the last decade, the Chiefs have tried to sell the naming rights to Arrowhead Stadium for big dollars. It appears they’ve finally found a business entity to pony up for the right to put its name on the stadium, or the playing field. Word is that an announcement will likely come in conjunction with the Monday night game against San Diego on Halloween. No leaks on the name of the company involved, but the word is that it’s a national name, not local, and that this company has not previously been involved in buying naming rights to sports facilities. I’ve been told it will be a very familiar name, one that fans won’t have to use Goggle to discover what that company does.
The Chiefs, though, told The Star that the report is inaccurate and that "nothing is imminent."
A team spokeswoman said the team has been involved in naming rights discussions since 2006 but that there is no deal in place, no announcement planned, and that neither is expected in the immediate future.
Re: Chiefs to rename Arrowhead Stadium
Apparently they are announcing forementioned national sponsor at the game tonight. BOO!
Any guesses?
