Here's a dumb question:

I didn't sign-up for any volunteer opportunities, one reason being that I didn't want to "commit" to anything with my busy work schedule.  But, is there anything that I can do on my own to be an ambassador for Kansas City to the Big 12 and visitors?

For example, I'm thinking of putting a sign on my car that says, "Lost Downtown?  Flag me down!" - Without a sign, I get a lot of people asking me for directions.  With me in my car, I could then have them follow me to wherever they needed to go.

I've also thought about simply walking around the P&L District offering help to anyone who looks like they need it.  However, I don't want to get in the way for any Big 12 volunteers or the "Downtown yellow jackets."

So, should I even try to help or leave that in the hands of the properly marked volunteers?  Also, if I should try to help on my own, can anyone think of any other ideas I can do?

So, who all has volunteered?

I'm planning on volunteering tomorrow and I just read all of my information.  However, no matter how much I read, it just seems like there's more to learn.

I want to be very careful to stay updated with the tournament, and happening around the P&L District.

Good News:  There's a lot of stuff going on all week long!  Almost too much to remember.  What a great problem to have.

Seconded. If you are passionate about downtown and kc in general this is a great way to show off our city and help support businesses you enjoy by suggesting them to out of towners.

time to bump this.  An update was just sent to volunteers seeking more due to two large touranments in KC this year.

ask pumpkin_stalker, this really is fun and a great way to educate tourists about kc....its perfect for people who are on this site.

to sign up, just fire an email to kcfaninformation@yahoo.com  there are also other committees like transportation if chatting up bball fans isn't your thing.

it doesn't take much time and really does help kc get these tournaments...hell last year I met Lew Perkins and Tom Osbourne....one of those meeting was really cool :)

BUUMMMMP....the initial fan info schedule just came out, plenty of slots available at downtown hotels on Wed-Friday both the 9a-3p and 3p-8p shifts.....not many but still some...a couple more volunteers could fill it up.

Contact me or PumpkinStalker if interested....this is honestly one of the coolest things to do if you love talking KC with tourists....basketball knowledge isn't nearly as important as "where do I grab some sushi?" answers.

edit:  Thursday has the most slots open...mostly in the AM.

The possibility of a Powercat sighting ought to intrigue folks enough to sign up!

I'll be sending folks to Rieger this go'round, that's fo damn sure.

How much help is needed this year?

I'm thinking of actually volunteering through the Big 12 this year, instead of on my own.

I can't find the email they sent, but it seemed like there was quite a bit of open slots.

Meeting at sprint center at 530 for volunteers. Even if you haven't signed up I'm guessing they can find a spot for you on one of the committees.

Bump. That time of year again. Volunteer meeting is at 530 at the Westin on Thursday.

Always a great time to brag on your city and answer the most obscure questions.

I haven't actually signed-up through the Big 12 yet. Can I still attend the meeting?

Unlike past years when I've volunteered on my own, I might volunteer through the Big 12 this time, if it's not too late.

Kind of getting a late start on them. My thought was to give them to our leaders for everybody to use. Thoughts on what should be on there? I have ticket info, transportation options, and obviously food booze options. Also thought a "what's new " from last year section.
