Since we are the city of fountains, why dont we create a 630ft (honoring the arch) fountain?
It would beat the current holder in fountain hills arkansas (or is it arizona?)
Wouldnt that be cool?
Place it downtown, maybe near the planned entertainment district

EDIT:
The current holder is in Fountain Hills, AZ. 561ft tall. Spouts every 15 minutes.

So, whadya think?
Also, I looked at the worlds tallest totem pole in Canada, it is 180ft tall out of a 500 year old cedar tree with 3.5 months to complete, that is what KCK should build, a 400-500ft totem pole, not a 650ft tornado.

And then we could see if KC could host a contest for the longest consecutive square dance.
KCSKYSCRAPERS changed my life. I was on the edge until I visited this site. Now I find myself longing to dive off a 60 story building onto a frozen fountain paying tribute to the St. Louis Arch.

Forget paying homage to the Arch, how about unseating Chesterfield as the home of the world's longest strip mall? Come on Joco, the whole metro is pulling for you. Get 'R Done.

I would rather have a really cool, unique, spectacular, one-of-a-kind fountain than just the world's highest.

Sorry Devin...

but what is the purpose of being the city of fountains if we dont have the worlds tallest and most spectacular fountain?

It's about the number and quality of the fountains, not the size. That giant fountain looks like crap. It's not really a fountain, just a big water spray. It would not fit in with the character of our European-style fountains.

but it is still a fountain, we should have the tallest.
The honoring the arch thing is just to get height into it.
Also, I would like some positive remarks also.

It's not the height, it's the GIRTH that matters.

A fountain of the size you speak of would either have to be so far away from anything that it could not be appreciated or it would have to be turned off the majority of the time because the slightest breeze would blow torrents of water into traffic creating a hazard.

Not only that, but what if some kid waded into it trying to cool off in the summer? He's liable to have his crotch blasted off!

C'mon Devin, it's time you consider the safety hazzards of your fantasies. How about the worlds largest BBQ grill or a giant tornado or Black Angus?

what scooter describes happened to some other "worlds tallest fountain"...

when this idea first sprung up they thought about putting it where the KS & MO river meet....before the idea could be finished, the FAA said "hell no"

lol thatd be funny though, seeing planes flying through a fountain. (although they would crash)
Why not place it near the west bottoms? That place needs some more pushing to become like downtown & midtown (it should be like them, but it is really ruins right now)

How about the world's tallest casino, the world's tallest crystal meth lab, or the world's tallest strip club? If you wanted to Devin, we could put a fountain on top.

Just kidding, of course. But just beacause something is the tallest (or even just really tall), it doesn't mean:

a) that its a good idea, or
b) that it needs to be built in KC.

It would be nice though to have some instantly recognizable landmark that the world could identify with KC. Preferably something that would also generate some revenue for the city, rather than costing the taxpayers money to maintain.

I like the height of the fountian in front of Union Station. Its really a great display. Any higher, and you would loose the "show". The fountian that you are talking about Devin, would be kinda cool. But first, we need to make sure that all the deferred maintanience and problems with our current stock of fountians. We really need to make sure that our fountians, statues, and monuments are clean and in good conditon. That would go a long long way to improving the impression people have of the city.
Are you sure we're talking about the same God here, because yours sounds kind of like a dick.

World's largest fountain:
Largest Fountain
The world's largest fountain is the Suntec City Fountain of Wealth in Singapore. Made of cast bronze, it covers a total area of 1,683.07 sq m (18,117 sq ft) and cost an estimated US$6 million to build in 1997.
