Minnesota 2015 Part 5

Post by Roanoker »

It is the next day, 8/11/2015. First on the docket is this beautiful, not-so-young automobile.
Image

Now, what in the world are “Blue Mounds”?
Image

My husband and son, with tree.
Image

Ah. A rock cliff. My son, who has a degree in geology must be happy now.
Image

These look good enough to eat, but we didn’t.
Image

I think this must be a blue mound, but I’m not sure.
Image

I called this one a “Queen Anne Convention.”
Image

This was—is—a portrait-oriented image. It’s in the middle. I put portions of the image on each side and cut away parts of the sides to allow one tree each to provide a frame of sorts.
Image

Rock lovers should appreciate this one. I like the color.
Image

Another blue mound, I guess.
Image

Almost Christmassy. A bit late.
Image

I didn’t want to crop off the sides, so I just added more sky, from the original image.

The last one looks like a painting.

Sometimes it’s good to step back and get a shot of the surroundings.
Image

It appears that we are visiting a place with a lot of rocks.
Image

We could have had a picnic here, but we didn’t bring food.
Image

Maybe not Bugs, but still a bunny.
Image

It is the next day, 8/12/15, and we are visiting Sioux Falls Park. We took a lot of pictures here.
Image

The geese like it here. I guess they like it everywhere.
Image

Many different forms of nature can be found at this place.
Image

Some parts aren’t terribly inviting.
Image

Young folks meet the challenge.
Image

A little house, not on the prairie.
Image

Never give up, but watch your step.
Image

“We can go here, but not there."

Built-in chairs.
Image

Sometimes it pays to just look up.
Image

Take two steps and the view changes.
Image

Some people take their cats for walks.
Image

That little house probably has an important function. I just don’t know what it is or was.
Image

Like a bridge over troubled waters.
Image

From this vantage point, it looks as if my son is taking a picture of a man in a wheelchair.
Image

I’m sure I had a good reason for taking a picture of these rocks. I just don’t remember what it was.
Image

No rocks or water in this part of the park. Rather peaceful.
Image

No cats here.
Image

Now we have trees. They don’t disappoint.
Image

Another plane! I bet this one didn’t cost as much as the first one.

What a nice retaining wall. And it’s all natural.
Image

Not quite ready for the Alps.
Image

Rocks and water. That about sums it up.
Image

Another would-be climber. Ya think flip-flops are the best idea here?
Image

Falls? What falls?
Image

Just another day at the “pool."
Image

We’re being observed.
Image

Sometimes it is just a walk in the park.
Image

Water over here, water over there…water everywhere!
Image

Ya gotta eat.
Image

Like a bridge over a canyon.
Image

Sometimes it is best to have no fear or shame.

On the horizon, we see the remains of a mill that burned down years ago.
Image

The rocks are just there.
Image

My son has a good vantage point.
Image

Reminds me of Niagara Falls.
Image

I’m sure there was an important purpose for this little house. Dunno what it was.
Image

Water can fall in many different kinds of ways.
Image

I wonder why the water has color.
Image

Not the best way to deal with a portrait-oriented image. Just ignore the left side.
Image

Walking around and taking pictures.
Image

My son is reading about the ruins beyond.
Image

He apparently wants to record the explanation.
Image

And I spotted flowers!

What would people sitting on the bleachers see?
Image

Inside the fence. No show.
Image

Now for something different...
Image

Back to the rocks and water.
Image

Mostly rocks here.
Image

You can almost hear the water rushing over the rocks.
Image

Rocks and grass.
Image

People and geese, with similar viewpoints.
Image

Some parents know how to deal with misbehaving children. (Kidding.)
Image

Now I see that the explanation is continued on the other side. However, I didn’t take a picture of the other side.
Image

Parts of the wall were quite sturdy.
Image

A window view.

This is the cafe in the Sioux Falls Park where we ate lunch.
Image

Some of the falls.
Image

Bridges provide ample viewing areas.
Image

There was actually a glass globe at the top of the near-center pole, but it got cut in half by the top of the picture. I didn’t bother to create a new one when I extended the sky upward rather than crop the sides of the image.
Image

Sometimes ruins can be beautiful. I stretched, squeezed and warped the center structure to make it appear more straightforward as a background.
Image

I believe these rock slots were used to hold a giant pipe.
Image

Notice the train on the bridge approaching the river.
Image

The giant pipe formerly held by these rock slots apparently made its way to the big hole at the base of the little building.
Image

This place is accommodating, but watch your step.
Image

It looks like a flooded area, but it is perfectly natural.
Image

I extended the sky in all of these pictures where the sky was unimpeded. For this one. I had to crop off the top of the rock and then extend.
Image

No cropping here. Just a sky extension.
