Kentucky 2017 Part 5

Post by Roanoker »

I snapped this picture of the swollen river as we rode across on the ferry.
Image

We’ve almost reached the other side.
Image

We have arrived at the Mammoth Cave National Park.
Image

If you stay at the park, there are many places you can go.
Image

This bridge takes us to many places.
Image

This picture reminds me of our recent ordeal. (I twisted it around to at least look straight up and down.)
Image

You can find something here to take back to your friends and family.
Image

You have to register if you want to stay here.
Image

Cave entrance in the past. I had to twist this one, too.
Image

Another twister. But it is a pretty sign.
Image

Now if you want real information...
Image

I love the restoration of old cars. I would have asked permission of the owner if he happened to be there. But he wasn’t.

We rented one of these rooms at Mammoth Cave. At first, I saw a big, black, unwanted triangle top right. As I thought about how to get rid of it, I realized it was really part of the picture. It is a roof type of thing, made obvious by lightening it a bit.
Image

Lots of little critters all around.
Image

So what is trying to hide?
Image

This little guy.
Image

Our room was nice.
Image

Lots of places to walk.
Image

Mammoth Cave tours have been going on for 200 years!
Image

There is a museum of sorts.
Image

For example...
Image

No need to tour the cave. You can see it under this glass.
Image

I wish I had read what this diorama depicted. Anyone’s guess.
Image

A pretend version of the one we saw for real up above.

Well dressed heron.
Image

You can read about the cave on top of it.
Image

Following our tour guide to the cave entrance.
Image

Flowers along the way.
Image

The vista beyond.
Image

And more.
Image

Um, I had to decline entering the cave because I got sick. So my husband and I hiked around on top.
Image

Time to check out a resident flower.
Image

And another.
Image

Sometimes you just have to deal with it.
Image

Paths were nice.
Image

The flowers encircling the tree were intriguing.

I wonder why a baby deer would be all by himself and swimming.
Image

Leaves and water bring peace of mind.
Image

I cut out a small portion of the picture to use as a background for the flowing river and surrounding forest, but I like the portion better.
Image

Inviting path.
Image

Cross-bedding, I’m told.
Image

It is the next day (6/1/17), and my son has joined a group to tour Mammoth Cave.
Image

Husband and I spend time walking along the many paths.
Image

Squirrels practically demanded food from tourists.
Image

Explanatory signs abound.
Image

Kind of interesting.
Image

It appears that this tree is holding a tree.
Image

Lots of places to read.

Somebody couldn’t decide between pavement and grass.
Image

Butterfly trying to hide.
Image

Cemetery.
Image

Inviting forest.
Image

Flowers are always welcome.
Image

Ever see a lily make a left turn?
Image

Flowers wearing beads.
Image

To be a lily or not.
Image

Vying for attention.
Image

As if we didn’t have enough of these already.
Image

Maybe one more.
Image

Watching a tour group enter Mammoth Cave.
Image

This is the end of the pictures for 6/1/17. The good news is that we visited the Corvette museum on 6/2/17, and I took a lot of pictures, including some of the giant hole where the most expensive Corvette dropped to its grave. The bad news is that we drove back home that same day, and I forgot to copy the pictures to my computer. I lost them forever. More good news, however: The Kentucky trip is over!
