Kentucky 2017 Part 4

Post by Roanoker »

It is now the next day (5/31/17), and we have arrived at The Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles, Kentucky. Flowers first.
Image

And another.
Image

We are entering the place that is famous for its bourbon.
Image

One more flower. Reaching for the sky.
Image

The lobby, with its rustic charm.
Image

What else would suffice for an appropriate decoration?
Image

So much to study.

Always enjoy your vacation photos and stories.

I have a few Questions though. Mean them in no offensive ways.

How did you find KCrag?
Do you come here just to post the photos?
What is your story?
Do you have online backups in other locations?

Thank you, ldai_phs.

<< How did you find KCrag? >>
My son was a member, and he encouraged me to join, back in 2006. I was living in Roanoke, Virginia, because the company I worked for in Kansas City (Western Auto) was sold to Advance Auto Parts (based in Roanoke). They needed IT people, so my husband and I moved there in 1999. In 2009, I retired and moved back to Kansas City.

<< Do you come here just to post the photos? >>
I suppose it looks that way. But no. I read other postings. I comment once in a while. I do have more of an interest in photos than any other area.

<< What is your story? >>
I think I answered that following your first question.

<< Do you have online backups in other locations? >>
I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but I do post many of my pictures on Flickr. My son is particularly interested in wildflowers, and I have posted many of his pictures on my site as well. He took them all with an iPhone 4.

If you are interested, you can see them at <https://www.flickr.com/photos/115393943@N05/collections>.

Classy wall, commensurate with classy bourbon.
Image

Picture of an original building on the wall.
Image

Many pictures and citations to view.
Image

Continuing...
Image

The fireplace advertises its surroundings.
Image

A place to dine. But not now.
Image

A place to relax. Now.
Image

Apples and snacks to tide you over.
Image

A painting of nearby buildings. Why on earth would the artist include power lines! I usually clone them out.
Image

The original, portrait picture was lightened, rotated, duplicated and pasted side by side. Not all that well, but nobody pays me.
Image

I cloned out the stupid power lines that marred the middle of this photo. The power pole remains. Not worth removal.
Image

This is the bus that will take us to the buildings where the real work happens.

I took this picture from the Woodford bus, as we were beginning our short trip to the old distillery buildings below.
Image

Here’s the first one.
Image

Not bad for being born in 1840.
Image

Lots of good stuff may be in there.
Image

No liquid in this one.
Image

I suppose it is better if it gets fermented.
Image

Old processes never die. If they produce well.
Image

The same is true of old wood.
Image

I love those gold letters.
Image

The tour guide is lucky she was standing by this urn, or she wouldn’t have had her picture taken.
Image

The sign says this is a High Wine Still. Kind of interesting.
Image

Worthy subjects for a picture.

it doesn’t take much.
Image

Goodies inside.
Image

Old rocks provide a needed service.
Image

Ready to go.
Image

Baby building.
Image

Much to see and shoot.
Image

Painted brick and/or wood.
Image

Campus buildings, newer and older.
Image

Walk back up or ride.
Image

Tourists walking to next building.
Image

Another view up the hill.
Image

Old class with security in mind.

I see that I forgot how to spell “Kentucky” in my last weekly email. Oh, well.

Formidable wall.
Image

Time to enter.
Image

Lots of barrels storing goodies.
Image

Modern-day assembly line.
Image

Bottles at the ready.
Image

Fellow visitors getting informed.
Image

We know what’s in there!
Image

Even the alleyways are interesting.
Image

Linked buildings.
Image

I’ve been wondering about all those bars.
Image

This must be the building where the good stuff gets bottled.
Image

Maybe just for decoration.
Image

Anybody want to hear “Beer Barrel Polka”? Oh, wait! that’s not beer!

Hmm. Big truck will maybe pick up a lot of bourbon for distribution.
Image

The tour group is boarding the bus to take them (us) up the hill to the main building. We should have just climbed the stairs.
Image

Found some flowers!
Image

Now that we’re at the top, we are looking back down on the buildings we just visited.
Image

A look to the right. Nice place.
Image

Time to taste world-renowned bourbon.
Image

Enjoy bourbon with chocolate. Yum!
Image

Everyone gets to have some. The kids don’t drink any bourbon. They’ll have to wait a few years.
Image

You can learn a lot from an expert.
Image

Do we understand? Do we care?
Image

My son has a few questions.
Image

Time for lunch.

Just outside is a nice patio. Or maybe a deck.
Image

Metal plants don’t die. I should get one.
Image

A concrete horse won’t take you very far. It won’t be comfortable, either.
Image

Lunch is always a welcome sight.
Image

You don’t want to be off one of these.
Image

One last look at the bourbon-making buildings down below.
Image

I just now noticed the pink trim on the leaves! Nice touch.
Image

Bold-looking flower.
Image

Took a few shots out of the car window as we left the Woodford Reserve.
Image

I do like fences and trees. They bond well.
Image

Wasted too much time on this picture, with unsatisfactory results. Again, nobody pays me.
Image

I wonder why there are so many fences.

As we left the Woodford Reserve, I captured the scenery from our vehicle.
Image

The black features enhance the view.
Image

Can’t get enough of those fences and trees.
Image

Caught a building.
Image

A better look.
Image

The unfriendly sign says no visitors. Well, okay then.
Image

Too bad I don’t know what town this is. I believe the building to the right is the county courthouse.
Image

Some of the houses are nice, such as this one.
Image

I waited in the car while my husband and son walked down to the river to see what was going on.
Image

Oh. Cars have to be ferried across.
Image

A few have almost made it.
Image

Now it’s our turn.
