It is now 2/3/16 and we are visiting the zoo in Brownsville, Texas.
Always time for flowers.
Our first encounter with zoo inhabitants.
They are definitely colorful.
I bet he would like to take a flamingo out for dinner.
Zoos always have deer-like animals.
The original picture was portrait-oriented. I plopped it on top of a larger portion of itself and cut away small portions.
Those flowers seem to brighten every scene.
This one doesn’t seem to be doing too bad, either.
What’s not to like with trees that bloom?
Caught one bloom up close.
This tree looks either confused or possessed.
South Padre 2016 Part 4
Re: South Padre 2016 Part 4
Ever notice how zoo animals are frequently asleep when you try to see them?
Unusual spot for a peacock.
A good reason for the “odd bird” nomenclature.
I see you, too.
A bald eagle wannabee.
We scratched this animal’s head, about the horns, and he seemed grateful.
Notice the far-right interloper. (Not a political pun.)
“Go away! I’m trying to sleep!"
Nice places to sit at this zoo.
My treatment of the background on this portrait-oriented image makes this clever fountain appear to be imbedded in stone. It’s not.
This is a Bornean Bearded Hog. His nose looks misplaced.
Do you know why a stork lifts only one leg? Because if he lifted the other one, he’d fall down.

Re: South Padre 2016 Part 4
We have here some serious bamboo.
I have no idea who this man is, but he saw my camera and struck a pose. What else was I to do?
He was so pretty...
…I had to take another picture.
Not just a pretty face.
Speaking of faces...
This looks like the same sort of duck but with a white head. I wonder if they are on speaking terms.
I’ve seen automobiles with pinstriping, but this goes too far.
All decked out and ready for church.
Another pretty bird.
And another picture.
Now we’re into Star Wars makeup.

Re: South Padre 2016 Part 4
Starting off with a really bad photo. Maybe things will improve.
Can’t get too close to this one.
Love his suit.
Promising sign.
These are pygmy hippos. I’m struck with their intensely black color. Almost like patent leather.
Trying to dress up chain link.
Unexpected falls at a zoo.
You might see something like this on the Jungle Cruise.
This “tree” looks a bit fake, but I like it.
I don’t see how this animal can even move, although I’m pretty sure he can.
These guys know how to monkey around.
This is an island for monkeys, but I don’t see any. Hey! There is an American Coot (duck) in the water!

I took many picture of this weird bird. He was very tall. Didn’t write down what he was.
How odd that these ducks (of the same feather) would line up on this makeshift ledge.
This guy was quite far away. Probably on purpose.
Cute and cuddly.
Not so cuddly. They look like hub caps.
Here’s another shot of the odd bird, standing upright and still. “Me and my shadow.”
Spent more time on this one than the result warrants.
Ever seen a monkey with white hair?
Signs help explain.
Notice the variety. Like the Star Wars bar scene.
No fear of heights.
The zoo attendant stood still while I captured the zoo patch.

“Go tell Aunt Rhody the old gray goose is dead.” Wait! This one is still alive!
I called the bird I saw (in the next picture) a black turkey. According to this sign, it was not a turkey.
So, here is the Double-Wattled Cassowary. Yeah, I’ll remember that name. No, I think I’ll stick with “black turkey.” But I’ll stay away from him!
Oops! Didn’t mean to awaken you.
Just hangin’ around.
I don’t know what this is, but he is cute.
What a way to carry your baby around.
He tried to run away from me.
Don’t touch!
Another cutie. But different.
Clever rendering on the zoo wall.
Keep your distance!

If you were a big turtle in this venue, this is what you would see.
Bath time.
An odd duck, as they say.
At first, I thought these were flamingos, but they’re not.
Definitely not a flamingo.
This is not a particularly good picture, but I think I found a truly angry bird.
Big turtle hauling tail feathers. That branch upper left looks like a man walking.
In this picture, the monkey on the left is wondering what is wrong with his friend. In the next picture (not posted), he went over to find out.
Ah, flowers. they look more like hard candy.
Snack time.
The zoo went to a lot of trouble to provide monkey playgrounds.
All the above pictures were the result of a simple crop to a 4:3 aspect ratio. This one started out portrait-oriented. I spent some time faking the two sides with larger portions of the original. I’ll post a smaller version of the original below.
I love Photoshop.

Re: South Padre 2016 Part 4
We visited a beautiful cathedral built in 1856 through 1859.
Many stained-glass windows.
Even the walls were impressive.
Just candles. Not sure where I saw them.
Shot from the back.
I bet the light came from candles back in 1859.
Another window.
Ditto.
Overall impression.
This picture started out as portrait-oriented. I fussed with it to get it into a 4:3 landscape.
Fellow tour-bus folks investigated the cathedral.
Can you spot my son and husband? (I’m the one holding the camera, out of sight.)
