Nebraska-Dakota 2014 Part 4

Post by Roanoker » Thu Dec 24, 2015 7:56 pm

Big rocks on view.
Image

Um, this is actually a “cutout” of the primary image, with a larger portion of itself in the background. It almost looks like one piece.
Image

I guess the Park Service didn’t want anybody to mess with this corkscrew rock. Kind of impressive.
Image

I do not remember these pebbles.
Image

It looks like a building, but I don’t think you’ll find any rooms.
Image

If I didn’t know better, I’d think it was a boat.
Image

Right this way.
Image

Boxy rocks.
Image

Finally, some flowers! And they are lovely.
Image

Banana nut bread?
Image

Yeah, well, I didn’t like the ugly background. This is better.
Image

Ditto.

These are the last pictures of that day (8/18/14).

Evidence of a sun.
Image

I liked the blooms better than the leaves and stalks.
Image

Like a monster hiding in the grass.
Image

While working on these pictures, I noticed birds on this rock thing. I counted five here.
Image

More of same.
Image

I really liked this portrait-oriented image. How to get it into a landscape orientation was not so easy.
Image

I tried everything I could think of to show the nice flowers and minimize all that other stuff to no avail. Cropped it and let it be.
Image

I think we were actually leaving.
Image

This one was easy. Crop and show off the nice asters.
Image

I don’t remember what significance this house had, but I liked its paint job and the bucket of flowers.
Image

A shot out of the car window. Simple horizon.
Image

End of harvest.

It is a new day. 8/19/14. The first thing we did was to drive to Wind Cave National Park in South Dakota. Hey, here’s a sign!
Image

Snapped a shot out of the car window. Nice trees.
Image

Hold on! We see a prairie dog!
Image

We have arrived at the visitor center. Husband is walking ahead of me. Son is doing something with his shoe.
Image

We are visiting a prairie dog village.
Image

Here are two residents, checking out their lawn.
Image

“Did you knock?"
Image

Viewing the neighborhood.
Image

On to the more important subject: flowers! Don’t get too close to this one.
Image

Not as flashy, but still nice.
Image

Field of dreams. And a few Photoshop tricks.
Image

Bee careful!

How considerate of these stalks to blossom for us.
Image

Where is Julie Andrews?
Image

Now where did I put my tiny salad bowl?
Image

He has no shame.
Image

Which color is best? Yellow or purple?
Image

This buffalo walked right in front of our car and ambled off into the forest.
Image

Would you believe I spent a lot of time on this? It is a portrait-oriented image, plopped in the middle of itself. The trees helped
provide good clipping opportunities.
Image

It worked before, so we ran that play again. Some of the trees are in here twice, at varying distances.
Image

The portrait-oriented image is on the right side, and a larger portion of it is on the left. The tall tree ensured a smooth transition.
Image

This is just a simple, cropped picture.
Image

So is this. Where is the jolly, green guy?
Image

Sometimes this is the only way I know where we’ve been. Actually, I still don’t know, in this case.

Flowers and trees.
Image

Just trees. And a path.
Image

Found a “Do not climb” sign on this lookout tower.
Image

Getting tired of trees.
Image

The sun shines on them, anyway.
Image

When will it end?
Image

I have many pictures of these deer/goat things, but I like this one. They look like statues, but they are real.
Image

At last! A flower! A small one.
Image

It deserves a close-up.
Image

Back to the deer thing. They liked to disrupt traffic.
Image

Interesting clouds despite car-window reflection artifacts.
Image

We found civilization, of sorts.

Motorcycle shop?
Image

First glimpse of Mount Rushmore, from our vehicle.
Image

My son enters the doorway to the famous monument. Um, memorial.
Image

Yep! That’s were we were.
Image

There it be!
Image

Framed, by one of its own doorways.
Image

People pass under state flags to reach the goal.
Image

This bust of the sculptor was sculpted by his son. (I spent more time on this one than was necessary.)
Image

Had to snap a pic of the Missouri flag.
Image

And one of husband’s home state, Minnesota.
Image

Nice work. Nice men.
Image

My son grabs a few pics of his own.

I took a few pictures of these guys.
Image

Here’s a place where a show is made of the show.
Image

I like aspens. This is one of those portrait-oriented images plopped on top of itself and cut to fit.
Image

Caught another angle as we walked around the faces.
Image

You can walk inside a cave of sorts and take a picture like this.
Image

The surrounding park has nice walkways.
Image

George is my favorite.
Image

Even my husband got in on the picture-taking frenzy.
Image

Many steps on the path, with yellow “watch your step” strips.
Image

A place for people to congregate.
Image

I liked the portrait-oriented picture. It’s on top of itself and cut to fit.
Image

Pretty tree bark.

We walked all around the Mount Rushmore park area.
Image

Trees everywhere.
Image

I’ll take pictures of aspens every chance I get.
Image

Wonderful man.
Image

The others, squeezed between two trees.
Image

My son, knee-deep in Queen Anne’s.
Image

These things are pretty, whatever they are. Just don’t touch the stem.
Image

Some flowers don’t look like other flowers.
Image

I like fences and flowers. Here we have both.
Image

An assortment.
Image

In your face.
Image

Bees can be nice. But we can’t see the pretty aster.
