Nebraska-Dakota 2014 Part 3

Post by Roanoker »

Continuing...

It’s those pod things again!
Image

And here they are in silhouette.
Image

A carpet of flowers.
Image

Branching out. (How does she do that?) 8)
Image

Captured in a ball.
Image

Flower nest.
Image

Another ball rolling your way.
Image

Always vigilant.
Image

Another way to deal with putting a portion of an image (left) next to its entire self (right). Not too bad, eh?
Image

I do like grass.
Image

Well, we were here for that big rock.
Image

Places to go, things to see...

Didn’t send pictures last week because Mac was out of commission. It spent three days in the Apple hospital.

It would be nice if I knew that person on the trail, but I don’t.
Image

Just grass, with an artsy filter.
Image

I didn’t want to lose any detail in this 3:2 picture, so I just added more sky at the top and bumped it “taller” to 4:3.
Image

Funky frame.
Image

This is a small section of the original picture. There were more of these flowers, but they were scattered and undisciplined.
Image

I guess these are flowers. Can you grow toilet-bowl brushes?
Image

There may be some added sky here, too. Or maybe I cropped the sides. I lose track.
Image

Not sure what these things are.
Image

I didn’t know flowers wore earrings. I have a pair just like these.
Image

There was too much busy-ness in this picture, so I selected everything but the part in the foreground that looks in focus and applied a box blur (whatever that is).
Image

Used a copy of the tallest stalk to fashion a frame.
Image

When you have a portrait-oriented image and you want to show it in landscape form… Oh, look! Daisies hiding.
Image

Now go back up your computer!

Path to butte, and…we’re there!
Image

Reminds me of that really old song, “Silver Threads Among the Gold."
Image

I think I need to go back to the future.
Image

You can almost see hieroglyphics on the side of this thing. But don’t tell anyone.
Image

Life on the road a while back.
Image

Tiny flowers ganging up to make a bold statement.
Image

These are probably not cherry tomatoes, but they sure look like it.
Image

I wanted to show the parking lot made available for would-be trekkers. After cropping, framing and doing the typical stuff with
this picture, I noticed the handicapped parking sign on the ground next to our car. Seriously? “Hey, you’ve got two fewer steps
in your two-mile hike!"
Image

We’re in the car now, and I’m snapping shots from the window as we fly by. I see a tunnel opening near the middle.
Image

By the way, we’ve been tromping around Scott’s Bluff all day. Nice sign.
Image

We needed to eat dinner, and this was the only place we could find.
Image

Would you believe it was the best Mexican food I have ever had? Wonderful, wonderful place.
Image

End of pictures for the day. What happens tomorrow?

It is a new day, 8/18/14, and we are visiting fossil beds. No collecting permitted.
Image

Sunflowers and buttes.
Image

Dancing flowers.
Image

Visitor center.
Image

I guess that’s where we are.
Image

Just what you’d expect in a fossil museum.
Image

Ditto.
Image

Um, I made the frame, just in case you were wondering. 8)
Image

These drawings were on a stretched animal skin, but I like the close-up better. More folksy.
Image

Beadwork is a given.
Image

More flowers and buttes.
Image

Reminds me of what my husband has to fight every spring at our house.

Now which one is the visitor center?
Image

Flowers and grass with a little Monet touch.
Image

Sunflowers and blue skies simply go together. Notice the ladybug.
Image

So if you want to know what kind of grass...
Image

Busy bee.
Image

Portrait-oriented picture with a small section of it filling the left side.
Image

Field of dreams.
Image

Purple everywhere.
Image

Sometimes walking the plank is a good thing.
Image

Butterflies and flowers go together, too. It’s a mutually beneficial thing.
Image

It must be true of sunflowers and ladybugs, as well.
Image

Was there a fierce wind, or did I hold my camera funny?

Must be a convention.
Image

Shy sister.
Image

Spreading like wildflowers.
Image

“We’re here, too!"
Image

Pretty as flowers.
Image

Doing his thing.
Image

Artsy whatevers.
Image

Simple stalks.
Image

Yeah, well, grass.
Image

Spiritual goldenrod.
Image

Could I get a picture of that, too?
Image

Of course!

We be sunflowers and a bee.
Image

Nice fencepost decoration.
Image

Portrait-oriented picture in two places.
Image

Picture the dance.
Image

Here or there.
Image

Like a jewel box.
Image

Portrait-oriented picture, copied, flipped and pasted next to itself.
Image

Unexpected colors.
Image

Happy flowers.
Image

I guess these fall into the flower category.
Image

Mutual admiration.
Image

It’s all in your mind.

I named this one “Happy and Humble” because that’s how it appears.
Image

This one is holding its ground, kind of like prairie dogs might do.
Image

Star flower bud.
Image

Asters are so pretty.
Image

The scattered flowers were kind of interesting, but I like them better with the weird Photoshop filter.
Image

The poor thing is overwhelmed.
Image

What you see is sometimes not what you get.
Image

I guess this is what we were there to see. I like flowers better.
Image

Some of us have to struggle for survival.
Image

Hm. Which way to go? The arrow suggests walking to the left. I don’t remember what we did.
Image

What in the world is that black layer? It makes for a good, natural graphic.
Image

Fossil roots. Ooooh.
