Disney to Ozarks?

Post by moderne »

It is being reported locally and in Joplin that  large theme park is being proposed in Newton County by someone with addresses in Lake Buena Vista and Burbank.

On a 1000 acres. Now, I've heard the Newton county story as well as Branson. I also think I heard the budget is 1 billion dollars.

There goes the neighborhood. Now Disney will be within driving distance. There go my skymiles. Are there any shells on the shores of Lake of the Ozarks?
No trees were destroyed in the sending of this contaminant- free message.

I don't visit branson, might actually check it out for the first time in 12 years this summer, told the kids I would take them to SDC.

But I don't think you guys quite get the draw of Branson.  It's one of the country's top tourists destinations and a disney park might just give the area some diversity to bring out the people, like myself, who are not interesting in the general theme of branson.

Having said that, who knows if this will happen.  I'd give it about 10% right now.

I don't think that Newton county, and Branson are that close. When I hear things about Branson I think of Stone, and Taney counties. So I don't understand the reports that links this project to Branson.

Well by road, Branson is just 60-70 miles closer to Joplin than KC is, but Springfield is the closest. People are either going to stay in Springfield, Branson, Tulsa or Kansas City when they go to a Disney Theme Park.

Newton County and or Branson are no where near the Lake of the Ozarks. No shells. It is a man made lake.

Read the article... the land in question is at (one of) the junctions of I-44 and U.S. 71 in Joplin.

In spite of the joking, this could be a huge benefit to Missouri.  The dollars generated from a project such as this would be huge and long lasting.  Go get the mouse!

We'd have quite the regional tourist attractions if we had Branson, a Disney complex, Schlitterbarn, Worlds of Fun, and Legoland all within a few hours of each other.

The only thing to pick up on the shore is driftwood and pretty dolomite rocks.  And styrofoam.

If Disney built a park there, even more hotels would come online down there. Probably more rooms than KC or StL.

Why doesn't KC or StL go after Disney? I'd rather see it in a "touristy" area like the Ozarks, but I think it would benefit the park to be closer to a metropolitan area.
