It was in very bad shape. But so was Union Station. If you're willing to spend the $$'s almost any old building can be saved.jimb wrote: Looking at the condition of the old roundhouse in the middle photo, I find it amazing it was able to be saved and redeveloped.
Re: Now and Then
Amazing that all the "after" pics show a desolate and less vibrant KC

Re: Now and Then
Isn't this at the corner of 14th Baltimore almost in front of the President Hotel?

Re: Now and Then
No, it's W. 11th and Baltimore looking south. The Mark Twain Building (formerly Continental Hotel) is on the right side, then directly south is the Brookfield building (formerly the Pershing Building), Bray Hotel, Phillips Hotel, Muehlebach Hotel, Orpheum Theater, and the former Kansas City Club Building (now Clubhouse Lofts).
On the left, one sees the old Taylor's Department Store (that became Macy's) sign, the Baltimore facade of the Peck's Department Store, and the top floor of the Baltimore Hotel.

There is no fifth destination.

Re: Now and Then
Looking at these now and then photos shows how KC has changed while retaining its look of the past. Looking at JosieWells first 2 photos you can see that even with the SC, Block, and Bartle Hall the whole city looks basically the same. Kansas city is and has been a very vibrant community and will be a vibrant city in years to come. with historic buildings like US, city hall and the like it is good to see buildings like the Sprint Center H&R Block, Power and light district and others creep up in spaces that would rather go vacant. Kansas City is realy starting to look great.
