From the archives of my Dear Late Grandma's cigar box of photos.

Taken aug. 1953

Looking east just west of washington on south side of 17th street.

The building with the sign hanging is still there. Use to be western envelope.

On the left are my apartments. MS Gays apts.

Gone are the market and apt building the young man is standing in front of. It's now a parking lot

After rewiewing this picture I think it was taken from where the Interstate is now.

Thanks for posting the "new" pics, Kev. You were a happy little kid. Hope you are still happy.

I love this. There are so few wider shots of the areas we lost because of the freeway. This makes me feel nostalgia for a time I wasn't even alive. Thanks so much for sharing a story we'd otherwise have no way to hear and see.

I'm still finding boxes of pictures hidden in the strangest places

I'll post those of interest as I come across them.
haven't figured out what the building is . I first thought it was the old apartments on 17th street, but not so sure now. If you look close there seems to be a man tight rope walking in it?

Although this isn't necessarily a photo, I found this video by local photographer/videographer Isaac Alongi featuring some amazing KC skyline shots. This video was produced to showcase a new piece of video equipment he has, but it has some great shots.

Cool Video, the aerials of downtown at the end is the best part.  I love how the street lights in the P+L are all white light while the rest of DT is yellow.  I really makes that area pop and look like something exciting is going on there.  I first noticed that when I was at Skies last fall.  DT used to looks so much darker from up there in the past.

Came across this when looking at some old architecture magazines from 1986 at the office today.  I have noticed various KC projects in adds in arch magazines over the years.

Does the canopy still glow this same way?

Kev, the house on the lower left in this photo may be my Great Aunts former home.  She's 94 now.  I'll copy and share it with her to confirm and let you know.

Thanks, can't wait to get some more info on this location. For the life of me I can't picture where it was taken from, and of course nothing on the back of the photo.
I'll have to dig out the original picture and study it.

The distance  of the P&L building makes me think it's taken from 17th and Jefferson, but it might be from 18th?

My first attempt at a pano shot using my new camera's built in pano program. I haven't had the chance to do anything to it beside stitching the 2 pics together.

Taken behind Grinders on 18th and Locust.
