Surprised that  no one's posted this yet...I'd love to see more of these pop up Downtown.

Coffee brewery to renovate former Brookside Amoco

By JOYCE SMITH

Columnist

Coffee baron and longtime Brookside resident Danny O'Neill is about to go retail, but just this once.

O'Neill will open The Roasterie Cafe at 6223 Brookside Blvd. in May, in the former Brookside Amoco gas station. He'll sell Roasterie coffee, espressos and other drinks. For breakfast, he plans to find the best pastries around. At lunch he'll serve soups, sandwiches and salads, and in the evening he'll offer upscale desserts.

“This will help us continue to build our brand,â€

From The Star : Brookside Cafe Is On Roasterie's Menu

Post by chrizow »

Roasterie should have done this a LOOOOOOOONG time ago.

they could have easily trumped starbucks had they gotten in the game early enough.

i hope it succeeds. KC has so many coffee shops though! but i want Roasterie to do well because they make their own (amazing) coffee and are a KC original.

and yes, a couple downtown locations would be perfect. P+L anyone?!?!?

I think O'Neill picked Brookside because he lives about 2 blocks away here in the Morningside neighborhood.

Boulevard can't open a retail establishment because of liquor laws. Once you rise about microbrewery status you can only do wholesale. Boulevard is now a regional brewery (> 15,000 barrels a year).

Roasterie brews up Brookside business

By JOYCE SMITH

For years an abandoned gas station greeted many Brookside visitors.

But a new owner has replaced that eyesore with an upscale coffee shop that should open later this week.

I stopped by on Sunday, and got a medium coffee.  It was mediocre......and within an hour, i had the worst pounding headache I could remember and shortness of breath.

Seriously was absurd.  The caffeine must've been sky high or something.  I won't go back.

The Roasterie moving to bigger building, adding cafe

Coffee distributor relocating this summer

By JOYCE SMITH - The Kansas City Star

The Roasterie Inc., a Kansas City importer, roaster and distributor of specialty coffee, is moving to a bigger location.

The company has purchased a 30-year-old building at 1204 W. 27th St. for an undisclosed price. Brinkmann Lighting Products Inc., a distributor of flashlights, is leasing the space but plans to consolidate with its facilities in Texas and Louisiana by April. Most of Brinkmann’s 14 employees have found jobs with the Roasterie, Boulevard Brewing Co. and other nearby companies, the company said.

Anyone know how this place is affecting the coffee business at Napoli, just next door? Are the regulars sticking with them?

correction: westport and plaza have a lot of coffee shops. crossroads and CBD are severely underserved, as least until the places that do exist expand their hours significantly.

- coffee girls is just now getting around to opening on sundays
- starbucks closes at 5 or 6 during the week and is only open until 2 on saturdays
- mildred's is NEVER open on nights and weekends... why do they bother?
- country club cafe is also not open on nights and weekends
- cup and saucer is too smoky/restauranty... shouldn't have to cross the barrier for a cup o' joe

am i missing any?

also, coffee shops are neighborhood fixtures, like gas stations, pharmacies, and newsstands. it wouldn't bother me if there was one on every corner.

Country Club Cafe is open Saturdays, unless they changed that very recently.  They've also been very gradually extending their hours, but only just a little.  They used to lock the doors right at 5:00, but lately they've been staying open to 5:30 or 6:00, especially when there are events.

City Market Coffeehouse is open every day including Sunday but I think they are only open late on Friday.  Usually I am unable to get there in time for an after-work fix.

I don't know the hours of the place in the AMC building.

There's a coffee cart in the Commerce Bank building that opens around 6:00 to 6:30am, which is a lifesaver, but usually packs up around 4:00 when I need it second-most.  :(

Time to change the law!

Airport concessions are run by single vendor, who is probably licensing the Boulevard and Bryant's names.

There is a decent amount of people working nearby at places like Boulevard Brewing, the Westside Business Park, and other places along the Boulevard.
