Ah yes, very underrated gem IMO.
Another kinda localish chain - Spangles. I've never had it, but my Wichita-native wife raves about it.
There is a Wichita place I have tried - Cinamon's Deli - that is awesome and I wish they'd open a location up here.

Braum's will only build restaurants within 300 miles of their OKC farm, which is why Emporia has 2 and KC has none (Olathe's at something like 301 miles away).
Spangles would be cool in KC only if they didn't buy any radio advertising. Stuff gets old quick.

But it just tastes better.
Are Whataburgers any good?
Cosi is pretty overpriced, but I like the quality of their salads. I could see them on the Plaza.

I'm a fan of Whataburger. I've a larger sample size of Whataburger experiences than In-N-Out and would probably go with Whataburger if it came down to it, but with some more In-N-Out experience I might change my mind.
Taco Cabana is also pretty good as long as we're talking about TX fast food. 24 hour tacos. Fresh salsa bar. Also, beer.

Whataburger is terrible.
Braums and Spangles are OK.
In n Out is amazing.

I don't know what Whataburger you've had, but I've been several times in different cities and found it to be quite good.

Completely agree. My Whataburger experience is in Mesquite, TX and Ardmore, OK - each trip had just so/so burgers, but the Ardmore location featured some employees that had to have been on meth.

Wild. San Antonio, Dallas, and Corpus have all done me right. I had In-N-Out in Dallas, also, and thought they were vaguely similar, other than In-N-Out's fries sucked.
