People say they enjoy Kansas City. Find out why.

We did their Stockyard Supper last week. Great French dinner, Leeks w/ soft boiled egg, Coq au vin and puff pastry for 25 bucks. All well done and kick ass cocktails for a breakfast joint. The space at night is quite nice.

Was hoping this might happen when he sold Happy Gillis. As it is, Stockyard Supper is once a month and I think they might be open First Fridays for a happy hour.

From their FB page today:

"Don't forget, we now stay open until about 8:30 on Friday nights for small plates and beverages."

Is this the same place that's in the old gas station diagonal to Kemper Arena?

Closing apparently. A bummer as they have been pretty solid for a long time.

Always wished they had kept regular evening hours, but suppose that was a lifestyle choice for the owners.

Whiskey and Donuts was a great event!

I was at that Whiskey and Donut event - it was great!

This seemed inevitable after the sale of Happy Gillis and then demise of Speak. It's a shame, but hopefully something will jump in there.

*fixed mistake of saying "demise" of happy gillis - don't want people not going there!

There was no demise of Happy Gillis, they just sold it. But I agree it is a bummer, especially with so much happening in that vicinity – new apartments across the street, Kemper Arena re-use, Golden Ox. I will miss them.

Third launch is a charm? Doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Bruh, I was in STL last a month and half ago. Why U slackin'? :)

RE: recent-ish West Bottoms stuff, I would advise checking out Stockyards Brewing and the Ship. Haven't tried the new Golden Ox yet.

Brown & Loe in City Market does a decent breakfast/brunch, complete with long countertop and low wait times. Bonus - extremely well located under market sign and across from streetcar stop.

i just marked stockyards brewing as a must visit and was checking out brown and loe. might do a pre-dinner mini bar crawl on genessee...

I DON'T KNOW WHY I HAVEN'T BEEN TO KC ENOUGH LATELY. all of my weekend trips have been taking me east of the mississippi for various reasons... milwaukee/louisville/cincinnati/lexington/nashville/etc.

now i'm like way out of touch with kc!

Glad you're making it back Warwick. Nothing wrong with a few rust belt detours (oh how I love Cincy!). There have been a lot of positive changes in the last 3 years or so, which are especially obvious downtown, from City Market to Crossroads. Utilize the streetcar!

Stockyards Brewing is definitely worth a stop, if only for the awesome restoration of the old Golden Ox bar. Amigoni Winery also (if you haven't been), a block or two away, for a tasting in the old Drover Telegram building.

Veering off-topic, I still think the best brewery in KC (certainly my fave) is Crane, in Raytown. Weird location and not physically impressive or anything, but man if you're into sours, goses and the like they have been doing some really really good stuff.

as a raytown native, it is still surreal to see something cool thrive under the "rickety old bridge" in the raytown downtown/industrial zone.

Lucky Boys and Voltaire are also worthwhile spots in the WB.

Everything's good in WB. The Ship, EJ's, Lunchbox in addition to the previously mentioned.
