Studio Restaurant and Bar - new place on Mcgee downtown

Post by chrizow »

west side of the street...i'm confused now whether it was between 11th/12th or 10th/11th - it's the block immediately south of the white Beirut-style parking garage.

crews are working hard in there.  appears to be an old bar inside, so it must have formerly housed a bar.  sign on the window says COMING SOON: STUDIO BAR AND RESTAURANT.

fyi.

Its in the Louis Curtis building, right?  Isn't there a thread on that already?
It used to be Benders a few years ago.

heh...i knew you old schoolers would come through.  it's a new space to me, but it's clear that the space has harbored bars.

It has a tradition of good dive bars.  I hope they don't pretty it up too much.

NKC's Swift is a true hidden treasure.  There's, what, ten places either along that row or within a block on either side?

Even I still haven't been to them all.

Hush yo' moufs!  I've never been drinking in NKC, despite the fact that I think its one of the coolest places in the metro (and the only thing north of the river worth a shit).  I think I'll make my way up.  I assume these dive are right around Armour.  Speaking of Armour, how come NKC can get CVS to build decent infill but we get 39th and Main and 75th and Wornall?

Uh, yeah, it's definitely not in the old Bender's location, since they demolished the building. They may have built a new building though.

My guess is that they're occupying the space of Club 1020.

My guess is the plans for the CVS were done while it was still and Osco.

I don't think anyone was being sarcastic.  8)

Basically start a few blocks north of Armour and go almost all the way to the industrial area along the levee.  There is an establishment every block or two.

They start around 12th Ave (or maybe 14th Ave, I can never remember which) and continue north along Swift until 20th Ave.  The southernmost one is River City Tavern, the northernmost is Oak Tree Tavern (not sure I have the name right) on the north side of the CVS.    South of 18th Ave they are all on the east side of Swift.   River City, the VFW, Pat's Pub, Bar 12, The Chip Shot, and Denim & Diamonds.   North of 18th you have River Aces on the corner, Chappels about a half block east on Armour, a new place around the corner to the west that I don't know the name of, and then Oak Tree a block north of Armour.   I still haven't been to whatever the new place is, the Oak Tree, or the VFW.

There is a bbq caterer down there who has (depending on what kind of mood LC is in) arguably the best burnt ends in KC.  I bet I'm there once a month, and yet I've never poked my head in any of these bars.  I say this by way of shameful confession.

Zoning ordinances may play a part in this as well. It seems like I read somewhere that KCs zoning ordinances are designed with suburban style development as the goal, and anyone who wants to do infill has to get a variance. Don't quote me on that.

About time, I couldn't believe it sat empty so long on such a busy street.
