Grinders. I think that's the name. It was on Westport. They shoved meatballs and cheese into a hollowed out hard roll and called the tasty sandwich a grinder. Maybe it's still there? Dunno.
Still there. The restaurant is called Mario's and the sandwiches are called grinders. And they are very good!
I probably miss Kiki's Bon Ton Maison the most. Pyramid too.

It was usually closed by 4. It wasn't much of a surprise he closed. I was told that the place had been struggling since losing its liquor license.
Why did they lose their liquor license? Anyplace with "Bar" as part of their name that loses that is doomed.

Now THERE'S a blast from the past. If your wench didn't get your beer as ordered, she was sent to the pillory for public humiliation. Right out of the middle ages it was. Food was average but the "fun" factor was off the meter! If memory serves me correctly, it was on 39th right near state line.
The old Blue Springs "Fun House Pizza", where I had my first pizza. (Where Class Reunion is now)
What was the name of the old Mexican place that used to be in the Independence Center? It was a sit down place near one of the entrances, not in the food court.
When I was a kid we ate there one night before going to the Twin Drive-In to see "Young Frankenstein". Just after the "Freshly Dead" gag I leaned out the back door of the station wagon and became reaquianted with the meal I had just eaten.

You mean Happy Joe's that's all over Eastern Iowa, Southwestern Wisconsin, and Northeast Illinois? I lived on their taco pizza when I was in college. That's a surprise that they were once this far southwest.

It was there not long ago when I went for dinner...

They also had a Metcalf South location. Loved their pizza.
If it doesn't have street-level retail, it's an abortion.
Just thought of another downtown place that's gone to the great beyond: Don's World of Beef. Used to be at least two locations downtown: corner of 11th & Baltimore and over by City Hall and Jackson County Courthouse.
