Well glad to see the cities in KS deciding to rise up and revolt the 1800's style liquor laws in the state.
So far on the list.

No sunday sales in Texas? shame....how late are the bars open down there?
Worst I've seen is Arizona where the bars closed at 1am....

Texas must be the driest state outside Utah. I was stranded there in February by American Airlines at the DFW airport. I went to a hotel around 10:30 pm and wanted nothing more than one beer and sleep. There wasn't a liquor store for miles, no bar in the hotel and I checked two convenience stores and they didn't even sell beer.
One thing I like here in California, other than we have Sunday sales, is that they sell liquor, regular beer and wine in grocery stores. I never understood Kansas' strange liquor laws.

Nothing better than picking up your bread and scotch at the same place...same in MO.
Oklahoma HAS to be the worst in the region.....

All of the plains states from TX to ND seem to have messed up alcohol laws. Here in TX, the bars don't only close at 1 am, you are not allowed to CONSUME alcohol after 1:15 am. At that time in the bars they literally come around and grab your drink out of your hand and throw it away. Yet this is the same state that allowed open containers in a moving vehicle until just recently.
In Oklahoma, beer can only be sold at 3.5% alcohol or something like that, unless it's not being refrigerated. This sounds really odd to me but this is what my friend who lives in Edmond told me.
I also have a friend in North Dakota who says you can't buy beer anywhere except a liquor store.
BTW, speaking of beer, everyone that I bring go KC loves Boulevard. And Shiner is a very popular beer here in TX, and I love that too. The central US has some of the greatest regional beers. Much better than that St. Louis crap

Well, Boulevard is second largest brewery in Missouri after all

Have you ever heard of tornado ale? I had never heard of it until a group of us storm chasers stopped in St. Louis and found it sitting on the shelf, so we of course bought some. Suprisingly it wasn't bad, and it is actually brewed in Olathe.

Also, (I love talking about beer), if you are ever in Columbia, one of the best places to eat/drink is Flat Branch. They brew all these interesting beers, changing the selection every day, and the brewry is right there in the restaurant where you can see it. They even brew stuff according to the season like pumpkin pie beer, which I thought would be nasty but it was good. Missouri is a beer lovers paradise

Yes Flat Branch rocks. Probably the best brewpub that I've been to.

Hey now don't be knocking the King of Beers too much. After all they're the one's responsible for getting Missouri out of the Bible Belt as far as liquor laws are concerned. I just love watching these backasswards Kansas communities fight tooth and nail with the attorney general over what's legal and what's not. Just move people!
Calling a spade a spade.

How about KC having a midwest beer festival where local breweries from around the Midwest setup at Liberty Memorial and show off their beer?
I think that would be a great deal...somebody with money set that up.

Interesting article Stl_Dan, I guess something good can come from Olathe The website doesn't work though, and I did some exploring on the net and it looks like the brewry closed down?!

I see a lot of people passed out at Liberty Memorial!KC wrote:How about KC having a midwest beer festival where local breweries from around the Midwest setup at Liberty Memorial and show off their beer?

The article mentioned the Great American Beer Festival.....which I found out is in Denver. Any state responsible for Coors, Zima and Keystone is undeserving of hosting that fest, bring it to KC! (Although I do give them props for Fat Tire)

I realized the link didn't work AFTER I posted it......real cool, huh? Sorry, I won't waste everybodies time like that again. Simple laziness kept me from editing my post to take it out. Oh well.KCNorthlander wrote:Interesting article Stl_Dan, I guess something good can come from Olathe The website doesn't work though, and I did some exploring on the net and it looks like the brewry closed down?!
I'll roll by Burch St soon and find out what the deal is and report back.
Have any of you been to their restaurant.....Barley's Brewwhatever at 119th and Quivira that was mentioned in the article? I have not.

I contacted Blvd. about hosting something like this......I think a regional beer festival would work well as a compliment to the big one in Denver.
