Leawood's Park Place development
Cafe Roux Re: Leawood's Park Place development
My next door neighbor's restaurant, Cafe Roux, was reviewed in today's Star. I'm embarrassed to say I haven't tried it yet(which i will get corrected asap), but was pleased to see the great review she got in the local rag. She has worked nonstop getting it off the ground. She joked the other day that she was home more when she traveled for Applebees then she is now.

I didn't say that.mudjack wrote: But empty space to GB==upgrade.
Plenty of high-end, national or regional steakhouse concepts floating around...making the leap from that end to the spectrum to GB is a considerable downgrade.

I stayed there a few weeks back. Good stay, I hope Park Place continues to grow. Nice little area. First time staying in Aloft, I like the concept. I would stay there again.KCMax wrote: Aloft Leawood Hotel has its soft opening. Grand opening October 8.

Food Network chef will open Mexican restaurant at Park Place
Aar?n S?nchez?s new Mexican restaurant, Mestizo, is expected to open at 5270 W. 116th Place in the fall. It will have two large patios, including one on the second floor that will feature live music.

Beginning to sound like this development just might attract another law firm or a movie exhibitor.
I may be right. I may be wrong. But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

Do you mean a headquarters like AMC or an actual movie theater? Which likely wouldn't work, with the Town Center 20 literally across the street.aknowledgeableperson wrote: Beginning to sound like this development just might attract another law firm or a movie exhibitor.

Maybe an art house?mistervinix wrote: Do you mean a headquarters like AMC or an actual movie theater? Which likely wouldn't work, with the Town Center 20 literally across the street.
Re: Leawood's Park Place development
i think the reference is to the rumors of AMC relocating its corporate HQ to park place from downtown KC.

Care to expand on that? Or do you just find Gordon Biersch as a leading indicator of landing AMC?aknowledgeableperson wrote: Beginning to sound like this development just might attract another law firm or a movie exhibitor.

Re: Leawood's Park Place development
I've been to Park Place a few times. Its actually really nice. It may be "faux", as faux as the Plaza, but its still a pleasant walkable experience. The problem of course, is that you have to get in your car and drive there just to walk around. And the nearby Town Center is still a huge lagoon of parking. In fact, it kinda overshadows Park Place - you don't even really know Park Place is there, its kinda tucked away in back.
If they are going to have developments in the 'burbs, I'd much rather have this kind of design.
Urbanizing the ‘burbs
Named for the Monopoly property, Leawood’s Park Place has been a winner while other developments have stumbled.

Me too, although I'd rather have it integrated into the existing street grid instead of built in a cornfield.
