Even noticed it this weekend from I-70 at 18th St in KCK and I-35 heading south from downtown.

Now if KU Med and StLukes would just build up instead of out with 5-6 story buildings, tearing down neighborhoods. Build a 30 story building and be done with it.

Medical centers are afraid of overbuilding. They tend to build in "as needed" stages. A lot of this has to do with uncertainty in healthcare funding; the nature of raising money through private donations; and having to pay to maintain square footage that isn't being used yet, and not producing revenue.

If the institutions were to tear all down and replace all with new I am sure their complexes would look so much different.

the new building is tall enough it can be seen from 635 at the rail yards. This is the first building the right height and color to show up from such a low angle.

I had not driven on Rainbow for a long time until last weekend. That whole area is super impressive. The buildings on the SW of 39th/Rainbow would fit into downtown.

Sounds creepy and something that wouldn't be fun. Just reading about it seems odd. At least it helps people.

Not sure why you'd need a crane of that size if this is the current design. Unfortunately they are (have?) demolished Spencer Chapel for this project.

Sometimes a tower crane is required if the site is too compact for a rolling crane. I've seen it multiple times in STL where neighboring buildings are too close or a major street is the only way to get a rolling crane on site. There's also other limitations that are defined by the builder. If they deem a tower crane is required, then so be it. Doesn't hurt having another tower crane up.
