JoCo Courthouse in Downtown Olathe

Post by AlbertHammond »

Seriously,...Olathe!?!

I saw this on TV a few nights ago. This thinking is why Olathe sucks so bad. This is how they destroyed their downtown years ago and continue to do so. Just what downtown Olathe needs: fewer historic homes and more parking lots.

When designers were planning the new Johnson County Courthouse, they were counting on using a parking lot near the site that's owned by Olathe. Now, Olathe is planning to turn that parking lot into a new development with shopping and restaurants
Good job planning!

Downtown Olathe desperately needs decent shopping and restaurants. Using that lot has probably been in their master plan for downtown development for years. I'm glad they have plans to develop that lot. In this case, it stinks that, because of finite land space the County now needs to muscle their way into portions of Original Town that noone in Olathe ever thought would be touched by development. It's not the most elegent portion of Original Town (the areas directly adjacent - south and east - to the existing County seat buildings are the jewels), but it's original town nonetheless. I feel for those that have worked diligently to invest in and improve that older area. I'm sure it seems all in vain.
