Olathe: new Walmart Market ???

Post by StL_Dan »

Sign at entrance to construction site immediately south of Garmin HQ and directly behind QT says "Walmart Market".

It will be nice having a grocery store 2 mins from my house and in a corner of town where no grocery stores currently exist.

Not really. Googlemap the location I gave. It's going to sit on a tract of land that is sorrounded by a service road to the north (adjacent to a QT, Taco Juan's and Arby's). To the east by a strip mall (Ridgeview Rd). To the south by a large apt complex and to the west by Brentwood Rd - a minor (but busy) - little north/south access road to aforementioned apt complex and 159th street further south.

Unless one know's there is a Walmart back there, most probably won't even see it as they fly through that stretch of 151st street en route to I-35 or their southern Olathe homes to the east.

I've read that Walmart Markets are more closely related to a grocery store than a drug store.

Walmart Neighborhood Markets

Walmart Neighborhood Markets were designed in 1998 as a smaller-footprint option for communities in need of a pharmacy, affordable groceries and merchandise. There are now about 200 Neighborhood Markets in the U.S. Each one is approximately 38,000 square feet and employs about 95 associates.

Walmart Neighborhood Markets offer fresh produce, meat and dairy products, bakery and deli items, household supplies, health and beauty aids and a pharmacy.
