La Mesa Mexican Restaruant will reopen after closing several years ago next to Schlotsky's Deli on Strangline Road.

I have had worse than La Mesa, however they can't compare to Mi Ranchito.  Muy Sabroso!

Chapala is good too - used to go there all the time.  I am just addicted to the Pollo Poblano at Mi Ranchito, so I tend to go there when I feel like Mexican food.

When do we ever get "Real Mexican Food"?  I always thought we just got Tex-Mex or Cal-Mex here in these parts.
I may be right.  I may be wrong.  But there is a lot of gray area in-between.

Check out La Pablonita (sic) on 7th street in downtown Grandview for real Mexican. You will need to know some Spanish or be good at pointing.

The Qdoba's that were here all closed. IIRC, the last one to close was in one of the casinos (either Harrah's or Ameristar).

Rio Bravo was bought out by the Chevy's chain, and those in the area closed a few years ago.

I'll order that next time we go to Ranchita.

If you ever find yourself at Chapala again, try the steak fajitas nachos....OMG.

Rio Bravo was fantastic before being purchased by Chevy's - which still has locations in the StL Metro.  Their smokey salsa is exceptional.

I go to Jalepeno's, Salty Inguana, and Kokepeli's for my Mexican resturant food.   Sometimes Panzons and Mi Rancho.

Tex-Mex in Kansas City?  Name one place that is Tex-Mex.  On The Border is the closest thing KC has to Tex-Mex.

My family lives in Austin.  When we go down we gorge ourselves on good tex-mex b/c KC has nada.  I'm not sure what you call typical mexican food in KC.

Tequila Harry's Macho Nachos are pretty damn good though.

The term "Tex-Mex" often gets used to mean any Americanized "Mexican" food.  i.e not what you would find in Mexico.
