KC bidding for Boeing factory

Is this a contigency plan for if American doesn't come here?

If not this would be a huge building and development around the airport, wouldn't it?

Dang that would have to be a huge building to assemble Boeings. I think St. Louis is expecting to get some of the component manufacturing work at their former McDonnell Douglas plant. I wonder how good of a chance we have to land the assembly line? Would be a great coup.

I think Wichita just got a bunch of state tax breaks to compete for some of the component manufacturing for this plane, not the final assembly plant. There will probably be a lot of competition with the Seattle area, since it already has most of Boeing's people and facilities.

Nice, doubt we would get it but would be a terrific pull....plus use KCI more.

Please, God Almighty, let's please distance ourself from the airline industry and all its subsidiaries. The jobs they provide aren't worth the free money they expect from taxpayers just to keep them in business. I'd rather have a Dolorian factory.

Trust me if we can't afford to keep our current airline related jobs why would even bother? Instead of 3 cities we'll be competing against 20+ on this one.

Be careful about generalizing the problems of the US airline industry to the rest of the world. Boeing doesn't just sell to American, United, and Delta - they also sell to Singapore Airlines, El Al, Virgin Atlantic, etc. International airlines suck much less that the US companies. Boeing would not be investing the money in this new product if it didn't think there was demand.

However, the numbers are staggering. Washington state is offering $3.2 billion in incentives, which means $2 million for each job.

I would rather see bond money invested for industries that are new to the like Boeing, than trying to keep uncertain downsizing company like AMR here.
I read today that Amarillo TX landed an 800 million Toyota truck factory with only 133 million in bond money.
Norman OK just brought a pharmacutical company from Palo Alto CA.
We need to start looking of new sources of employment. Not ones that have proven we can not depend on.
California has all sorts of companies that are considering leaving with all the economic problems. We should be hitting on that market.

It would be the final assembly. There are strict requirements for rail and PORT access.

St. Joe is also chasing this with their large airfield used by the Air Guard.

Wichita is currently at Boeing's mercy as the firm has been quietly reducing its efforts in KS for a few years. There's some discussion that Boeing may pull out all together.

The port requirements would seem to a big minus for KC or St. Joe sites. The Missouri River is only navigable by barges for a short eason each year. Surly Boeing would need year-round access if they say they need a port.

I'm sure the fellas at Holiday Sand & Gravel would gladly switch their drudging operations into a tugboat service to assist.
