Isn't that the only Macy's in the Northland? I'm sure there's other viable sites (as our resident oracle will tell you, no doubt).
It is. Here's the classic four:

Dillard's at Zona rosa
Macys at metro north
Jc penny at shoal creek
Seats at Antioch

Fun fact from Carl Quintanilla on Twitter:

No indoor mall has been built in the United States since 2006.

but... that's just crazy since all the "people" say the enclosed mall is the future! (says no one except for MD Management)

Time claimed no mall was built at all from 2007 to early 2012. Not sure if that's true but if so, it's no surprise no indoor mall was built.

I was at Baby's R Us off of Barry Rd. yesterday to buy a gift card for yet another friend who is having a baby and got to talking to one of the employees about that big strip mall they're in that's barely 10 years old, maybe less, but half empty. I told him it was a shame and asked him why they were still there. He said they had a lease, so they stayed.

He then said that if the Metro North thing gets going and it's re-done, he had heard that there was a good chance that Baby's R Us would move there. He'd also heard the Trader Joe's rumor, but it kinda seemed he might of knew more than he was letting on.

I overheard a conversation at a Mardi Gras party. "I wanna live at Metro North!" caught my attention.

Some artists were excited about working at Metro North, proposing a music festival or some picnic-themed thing at the balloons. The more excitable one was talking about 'guerrilla-style' but the other guy mentioned 'getting the permission, doing it right.' Artist-wise as usual not knowing whom/what to logistically ask. So, there's some nostalgia about revisiting the malls of a 90's youth.

this 2001 article mentions Barry Towne so it was occupied 12 years ago. the mall still had 125 stores apparently too

http://www.ingramsonline.com/June_2001/ ... and10.html

intriguingly it has the original name of Briarcliff Village as well

Do you ever listen to the "Welcome to Night Vale" podcast? Artists took over that mall as well. It didn't end well.

I'm kind of pessimistic on this ever turning into anything. I predict a walmart-anchored strip center before it's all over.

I went by this morning and took about 100 pictures of the mall. Depressing to see this go.

I thought Antioch center was in front of this project?

Physically in front of it? Because they are nowhere near each other. I agree about the Walmart idea - it could possibly become another Mission Mall perpetual hole in the ground. Maybe the army can use it for target shooting.

I've lived in 64068, 64154, 64118 and 64116. I know exactly where both malls are

I meant that the same company is replacing one and then the other in front of. That nothing will happen until the new Antioch center is done
