Potential sale of NKC Hospital takes hospital administration off-guard.

Not sure what the legal options would be. If the city owns it, I would think they would have the right to sell it. I wonder if such a sale would need to have voter approval?

Re: North Kansas City looking to sell NKC Hospital
I would guess the most likely buyer might be Heartland Health out of St. Joseph, which would be a downgrade because that hospital sucks. Heartland is looking to expand into Kansas City--esp. the Northland.
A better buyer would be Carandolet Health, since they don't really have a presence in the Northland.

Isn't Carandolet selling it's hospitals?FangKC wrote:I would guess the most likely buyer might be Heartland Health out of St. Joseph, which would be a downgrade because that hospital sucks. Heartland is looking to expand into Kansas City--esp. the Northland.

Re: North Kansas City looking to sell NKC Hospital
It's kind of sad that so many hospitals founded by religious organizations are getting sold. The hospital system was basically invented by various religions and operated as non-profits for the benefit of mankind.
When hospital move from the non-profit mentality, things change, and health care costs increase. Many of these hospitals provided free or low-cost care for many.

This is pretty sad to hear, Heartland Health is trash! I can't believe the city wants to unload such a well performing (Even Financially) hospital so badly that it's willing to pay Merril Lynch well over 1 Million dollars just to put it up for sale! What a sham!

If Heartland gets its' hands on NKC Hospital, expect it to turn into one of the worst hospitals in the metro. People in NW Missouri and St. Joseph mostly hate Heartland, and many come to Kansas City for health care now.

Re: North Kansas City looking to sell NKC Hospital
Gov. Nixon signs legislation that ends dispute of sale of N. Kansas City Hospital. Any sale of the hospital now requires a majority vote of the residents in North Kansas City, MO.
