One of Kansas City’s iconic restaurants, Gates Bar-B-Q near Arrowhead stadium, burned to the ground in an overnight fire. Gates Bar-B-Q in Independence is a total loss after a fire ignited just after 1 a.m. Tuesday.
According to first responders, an employee called 911 to report that the hood had caught on fire.
According to the battalion chief, fire crews had issues fighting the fire because of water icing over and lack of water pressure from fire hydrants. Fire crews on scene said water flow was so poor they had to get water from a hydrant one block away.
Fire fighters said there was one employee at the time of the fire but no injuries were reported.
“There was one employee in the restaurant at the time, he escaped non-injured and at this time we don’t have any reports of any firefighters which have sustained any injuries which with this much water and ice it’s a good thing,” Battalion Chief Independence Fire Mike Ditamore said.

Re: Gates BBQ in Independence burns down
I bet it smelled better than your average building fire.
I've never been to that location - Is it assumed they'll rebuild?

Their insurance has to be ridiculously high or they're doing something wrong or both.
