Re: Bannister Mall/Cerner
"I work for a big corporation and I just spent the last 8 years in Houston. When we were hiring big time during the oil boom, literally hundreds of professionals per year fresh out of school, nearly all of what we would call the millennials we hired opted for urban housing locations. There are only a few exceptions and those were driven more by cost as the burbs are indeed cheaper. But the overwhelming number opted for the city."
I took the article to mean that after a period of time in the city the older the millennials get they choose the suburb over the city. Fresh out of college they would choose the city but with marriage and/or family the choice is to move out.

Adding 10 more similar buildings and surrounding parking lots is only going to make this project even more laughable. What an embarrassment.

I'm sure that sidewalk will win some award for incorporation of green design elements into a new development.

This is certainly a boon to the surrounding communities. Look at all the spin off development happening! I definitely want to move out there now!

For a billion dollars, KC could have built them a very nice set of garages for a downtown or midtown location that would not have been a boon to Lees Summit and Overland Park like the current location is AND still have money left over for a significant tax break.pash wrote:Multiply by four. That's what a billion dollars of future tax revenues bought us.

This project seems stalled. They have pulled all construction equipment out. The first two buildings have been up for some time now and there are no signs of starting the next phase at all. There is no way they are on their original schedule to build out the campus in 10-12 years (including the first two buildings so under ten years left to build rest of campus).

Re: Bannister Mall/Cerner
For TIF's and tax breaks, experience suggest that the expected added employment and buildings after the initial builds rarely ever materialize. Cerner is a decent enough company and I don't discount the likelihood that they will grow but I kind of doubted the magnitude of the projected need for space when this thing was being considered in the first place.GRID wrote:This project seems stalled. The less they build the less TIF money they get. So fine.

Did they have one of the "added job" requirements for this shit hole project? To be fair I frequent the Wendy's and new Taco Bell's for lunch. I often eat my feelings working for the School District...
