Those of you who wanted KC to have its own bioscience project get their wish.

Trammell Crow has pulled out of being master developer for this project.  They decided that the likelihood of recruiting tenants wasn't good enough to warrant investment two years' worth of planning and design.

Seems like this would be such a better fit adjacent to UMKC/Stowers or in South KC near Cerner, Stowers, and several other life science developments.

It appears this project is a go, with the first phase starting development and having an opening date in early 2014.

Projected at completion: 40 companies, 3700 jobs, annual payroll of $190 million

Why KCMO didn't get this project I don't know. This would have been a perfect redevelopment project for some of the industrial areas east of UMKC--around Blue River, Manchester and Highway 40, near the Truman Sports Complex; or south: Winchester Office Park, or former Richards-Gebaur intermodal facility. Another good site would have been near St. John and Belmont adjacent to the mammoth former Montgomery Ward warehouse. The warehouse has lots of space, and there are developable parcels northwest, south, and east of it.

The University and State could have reinvigorated former industrial areas with new technology firms and projects, and provided jobs in a area that desperately needs them. The Northeast and east KC industrial corridors have lost thousand of jobs in past decades that haven't really been replaced: Montgomery Ward, Sears, Sheffeld Steel, GM and Ford plants, Donnelly Garment Co., former Goetz and Heim-Kansas City Breweries Co. breweries. Not to mention all the grain processing jobs lost in the mills.

It's too bad Gary Forsee resigned last January at President of MU. One would hope that he and head curator Warren Erdman (Kansas City Southern) could have steered this innovation park to KCMO. Erdman served as chief of staff to U.S. Senator Christopher S. Bond of Missouri in the past, and he is chairman of the University of Missouri Board of Curators, the governing body of the University of Missouri System. He is also a member of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Trustees.

Erdman is also the former chairman of the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City,

This park was already going to Blue Springs long before he resigned... heck, the topic dates back to 2008.

Would have been nice for something like this to be near Hospital hill or something. Adams Dairy Parkway? May as well have put it in Booneville.
