Its still a shame this project never came to fruition. They'd be a lot closer connecting to Vine if it had.

Presumably that building is still for sale. It's occupied by the owner right now, as it was during the Foutch proposal.

The KCTA site near 18th/Vine is intriguing. Lot's of young musicians frequent MMF.

18th and Vine, and Independence, are mentioned in a NY Times article on the United States Civil Rights Trail.

I like seeing businesses like this come to 18th and Vine, since one of the problems with the district is that there aren't enough businesses to service the residents in the neighborhood , and give ordinary citizens daily reasons to go there.

Developers Reviving 150-Year-Old Buildings Near 18th & Vine District
Right now, two of the city’s oldest buildings near the 18th and Vine Jazz District look the part, limestone ruins straight out of Medieval Europe.

But Jason Parson, Tim Duggan and Shomari Benton have big plans for redeveloping the former City Water and Street Department buildings at 2000 Vine. Both were built in 1866, making them more than 150 years old, and have been empty since 1994.

“They were the first two public works buildings in Kansas City history,” Duggan said. “These shells were built like tanks.”

Update on the Water and Street buildings. There is a new roof on the south building. This is one of my favorite projects under construction. It gives me hope that the Workhouse building across the street can eventually be restored as well. It would make a neat campus for some small company.

Plans Move Ahead For Art Center And Chinese University In Empty School At 18th & Vine
...
bout 5,000 square feet in a new Zhou B Art Center in Kansas City would be allotted to Guangxi University for studios, exhibition space, and apartments for visiting artists, professors and scholars.
...
The cultural center would give new life to the old Attucks School at 1815 Woodland Avenue, a block or so east of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. Vacant since the Attucks School closed about 15 years ago, it has remained boarded up.
...
If all goes as planned, that’s still about two years away. But, unlike the rest of 18th and Vine, no city funds have been required for this project. The Zhou Brothers have committed $2 million for the first phase: getting the center here in Kansas City up and running.

The Kansas City Council fast-tracked an ordinance Thursday to take over the Buck O’Neil Research and Education Center, known as the Paseo YMCA when independent baseball team owners met there in 1920 to establish what became the Negro Leagues.

That looks awesome. Is anything similar planned for the castle itself?

Nothing is happening with it. It's owned by a non-profit. The City approved money to improve the Jazz District, but I've never seen anything about money being allocated for the Workhouse preservation, or restoration.
